About me

I am an experienced and qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist offering psychotherapy and counselling. I work with all ages of adults on a one to one basis. I work from my consulting room in the small market town of Charlbury, Oxfordshire. I have a wide experience including working with relationships, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, bereavement & loss, anger and self worth. Therapy can also be of help to those who have experienced loss of meaning in their lives or for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships.

As a qualified psychodynamic therapist,  I will work with you in a non-directive way so that together we can explore what is troubling you.

Some life experiences can result in impact which is fairly straightforward to manage.  However some experiences earlier in life or from childhood can lead to feeling and behaving in ways as an adult that you may not understand and which can cause problems in your life and relationships now.

Therapy is a safe and confidential space where these experiences and feelings can be explored together in a non-judgemental way in order to gain understanding of yourself and your relationships. This can be very freeing, allowing you to find fresh  and creative ways to approach your life.

How long does therapy last?

I usually work in an open-ended way which means that we will not fix the number of sessions at the start. We will continue until you feel ready to end.  This may be for a short time focused on a particular issue (e.g bereavement or redundancy) or more longer term lasting for a number of months or years depending on your situation and needs.

We meet on a weekly basis with clients having either one or two sessions a week depending on individual need. The sessions are at the same time and on the same day(s) each week and sessions last for 50 minutes.

What happens next?

If you would like to arrange an initial consultation, please e-mail me or phone on 07503 040785. I use this first session as an assessment - an exploration of why you are coming now, what you are hoping for from therapy, your present situation and your past history. It is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you and for us to think about how your needs can best be met.

You may also want to look at my website: www.francesmaclean.co.uk which provides some more information about me and you can send me an e-mail via the "contact me" section on this if you prefer.

I charge £60 per session, please see fees section below for further details.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
