About me

My name is Emma Brand and I am a qualified person centred counsellor and Registered Member MBACP. As part of my membership with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, I adhere to their Ethical Framework to ensure I am working safely and in the best way for my clients.

I have a private practice which is based via online and telephone, having recently completed an Online and Telephone Counselling course.

I am passionate about working creatively and have experience working with diverse groups and communities including the Deaf Community and the LGBTQ+ Community. I have experience working with people with sensory impairments and understand the importance of communication, accessibility and individuality.

Looking for support and thinking about counselling can be daunting; but I hope from my website you can learn more about me and what I can offer you. I hope to empower you through listening to achieve balance, which is why I called myself ELB Counselling Services.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am qualified in Person Centred Counselling.

Some of the ways I have supported people includes:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Loss or bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Relationships and Sexuality
  • Family Relationships & Friendship Dynamics
  • Life changes and managing this
  • Feeling low in mood
  • Low self-esteem or confidence
  • Experiencing bullying and/or historical bullying
  • Understanding of the past and self

In my practice, I commit to offering a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where you can feel comfortable talking openly about how you are feeling. I am aware sometimes it can be hard to talk to someone you know as they may have an opinion or be involved.

I am not there to give answers or give advice but to listen and empower you to reflect on your emotions and feelings. My theory and learning from the Person-Centred Approach is that you are the expert in your life and you have the power within to make change.

Counselling is about working with you to understand yourself: including how you relate to yourself internally and how you relate to others around you externally. I will work at your pace and how you feel comfortable and I am not there to guide or direct the session. I am here to support you in finding your own solutions and have a dedicated time to reflect on your feelings and emotions.

I am qualified in British Sign Language Level 3, and in my professional work have supported people with a dual sight and hearing loss. I attend regular Professional Development Training events which I can reflect on and bring into a session if appropriate, alongside other resources.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
