About me

I am a BACP registered child and adolescent psychotherapeutic arts counsellor with over 15 years of experience working with young people. Before training to be a therapist, I was a primary school teacher. I also worked in PRUs and as a nanny, experiences in which gave me comprehensive knowledge of the education, school and care systems and knowledge of the various factors affecting young people’s mental health. With this in mind I have good understanding of the ways exams can cause stress and anxiety for young people.

It is my core belief that art, play and self-expression is a powerful way to address issues experienced by many children. However, my therapeutic approach is always led by the child or adolescent. I guide young people with empathy, and sensitivity and show them ways in which to express and process any emotion that they are feeling in a safe, contained way. My approach is integrative and humanistic with the individual needs of each person in the foreground.

I work closely with families in a non-judgemental way, to support them in better understanding their child’s needs.

I have a new space at Balanced life in Hackney Wick for ages 4-18.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 15 years experience working as a TA in primary schools and as a nanny in various roles. I completed a PGCE at The Institute of Education. I then went on to be a primary school teacher and nursery school room leader. I later completed a diploma in child counselling and psychotherapy at The Institute of Arts Therapy and Education. Since graduating I have been working in secondary and primary schools in East London.

My experience has given me great insight into working with parents/carers in a non-judgemental and empathic way. I work closely with parents/carers so that they can have a greater understanding of their child's needs. Please feel free to email me and we can arrange a time to discuss your child or your own experiences in detail.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
