About me

How Can I Help You?

I know it takes a lot of courage to take that first step and contact a counsellor. Our lives can sometimes seem difficult. You may feel sad, anxious or simply confused and overwhelmed. Counselling can give you the opportunity to work through the challenges you face.

Whether you are looking for help with your relationships, depression, work issues, self confidence or just feeling ‘stuck’, counselling may help. Some of the benefits include:

  • Attaining a better understanding of yourself and your goals
  • Developing skills for improving your relationships
  • Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek counselling
  • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety
  • Changing old behaviour or relationship patterns
  • Building confidence and self esteem
  • Finding your voice

I am calm, empathic, accepting and non-judgemental. I can offer you a safe space where you can be yourself. Through counselling, I can help you to understand and work through your issues at your own pace. During this process of self-discovery, I will support you in making positive changes in your life.

I firmly believe that each person is unique and there isn't a 'one approach fits all' in counselling. I will work with you, as an individual. The relationship between client and counsellor is key to therapeutic change. It is difficult to get a sense of a person through a short profile like this so I speak with all new clients on the phone prior to the first appointment. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions and to get a sense of how we would work together.

What to Expect in the First Session

Before we first meet, I will speak to you on the phone so you can get a sense of what I am like and to give you the chance to ask any questions you might have about how we will work together. In the first session, we will work together to identify what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to get out of the process. We will also establish how we will work together, for example boundaries, timings and confidentiality. This is your time so it is important that you feel comfortable and safe and able to open up.

If you would like to find out more, have a look at my website.

If you think I could help you, feel free to contact me. I look forward to meeting you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work locally in private practice and also volunteer for a local charitable counselling agency. Through this I have worked with a wide variety of clients with very varied issues and needs. I am a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP.

My years of experience as a secondary school teacher and pastoral lead have given me rich experience in working with young adults and the challenges they face.

I work mainly in a person centred way which means you determine the course and pace of your work with me. We work collaboratively to understand what is preventing you from achieving your goals.

I work face to face, online via Zoom and over the telephone with clients on a one to one basis.

I believe in the importance of continuing professional development and have trained in solution focussed counselling, working with bereaved clients, working with childhood sexual abuse, working with children and young people, adolescent self harm and a variety of other issues.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
