About me

Hello, thanks for taking the time to look at my profile. My name is Clare, and I am a qualified counsellor and offering therapy sessions for individuals, in person and on the telephone. I run a small and safe private practice based in the heart of Machynlleth, where you are invited to come and talk about whatever is troubling you.

Whether you have long term problems or a new difficult situation to deal with, being listened to by someone outside of the situation can really help. I believe wholeheartedly in the counselling process and totally understand how difficult it is to ask for help and how making the first step to contact a counsellor may feel intimidating or even frightening. I want to reassure you that this is completely normal and it’s ok to feel this way, as sometimes in our lives the most resilient of us can feel that things are spiralling out of control or not going to plan.

People come to counselling with a wide range of hopes and expectations, often wanting to feel happier or better able to cope with life’s difficulties and challenges. Maybe you are feeling sad, depressed, overwhelmed, anxious, uncertain or stuck: perhaps you are struggling with bereavement or other life events that involves loss, change upheaval or new beginnings, leaving you feeling unsettled, angry or upset. Maybe you just need to be heard.

I offer an emotionally warm, calm and relaxed space for you to take a moment to pause and explore your experience of the world. Moving at your pace, I will empathically listen and compassionately reflect what I hear and feel from you, intending to be non-judgemental, honest and valuing you for being you. Empowering you to recognise your resilience and positive strengths, I aim to create an open and nurturing space where you may find new meaning, hope and understanding of yourself, in the hope of creating a more fulfilling and contented life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am primarily a Person-Centred Counsellor, although through continuous professional development (CPD) further training and my own lived experience, I am able to draw upon a variety of approaches that I feel will be most useful and beneficial to the unique individual as we proceed to work together.

I am a registered member of the (BACP) British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists adhering to their codes of practice. Volunteering for a national bereavement charity I have a wealth of experience both personally and professionally working with grief and loss, alongside completing an abundance of further training in this area of interest.

I am currently studying for a level 5 in psychotherapeutic counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
