About me

Hello and welcome

I am an experienced BACP-registered counselling therapist working face to face in Brighton & Hove and online. I have many years’ experience working in the NHS, in private practice and with local community mental health services and charities.

I offer a space away from your every day life to talk about whatever is troubling you. This may be something specific or a more general feeling that things aren't right that you can't quite put your finger on.

Together we can explore your story in a way that feels holding, supportive and authentic. Through working together my hope is that you will gain in awareness of how your relate to yourself and others and be better able to make the changes you want to make in your life.

I aim to work in a way that is affirming of your identity, race, culture, ability, sexuality, gender and neurodivergence.

The first session

Taking the first step can be difficult. You may feel anxious about getting in touch or meeting for the first time. I offer an initial reduced cost session for us to meet and decide whether we feel like a good fit. We can do this either online or face to face. Feel free to bring any concerns or questions you may have about counselling or about my approach.

I offer both short term or more open-ended counselling.

Finding the right counsellor for you is important which is why I offer a reduced cost initial exploratory session for £20 so that you can meet me and discuss your needs before deciding whether to make a commitment to work together.

If you have any questions please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Brighton University. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics.

Alongside my private practice I have many years' experience working for a long-established local community counselling centre - both as a counsellor and service manager. I have worked in the NHS offering counselling for parents and parents to be around miscarriage, relationship and family issues, postnatal difficulties and traumatic child birth. Prior to training as a counsellor I worked for national charities and NGOs on environmental and health issues.

I have both personal and professional experience supporting individuals who are neurodivergent.

I have regular supervision and attend ongoing training to keep my skills and knowledge up to date. Since I qualified I have undertaken additional training in trauma, suicide prevention, bereavement, LGBTQ awareness, relationships, cultural privilege, creative therapies, bereavement, autism & neurodivergence, among others.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
