About me

I'm experienced working with children, teens and adults regularly working within the primary and secondary education system throughout Fife and in an agency environment. I understand the unique developmental needs and challenges faced by a younger age group regularly exploring issues around self-esteem, social anxiety, general anxiety, anger, loss, attachment issues, self- harm, suicidal ideation, sexual abuse and neurodivergence. My work with adults includes dealing with the effects of trauma, childhood sexual abuse and relational difficulties inc emotional, domestic and narcissistic abuse and childhood emotional neglect.

How we cope when we feel vulnerable, invalidated, scared, lonely, betrayed etc. can feel out of our control. We do what we can to feel safe. Avoiding feeling vulnerable can show up in many ways. It might be self-soothing in ways we know aren’t helpful, anxiety making our life smaller, anger, self-isolating by rejecting people before they reject us etc.

Our resilience, emotional regulation and ability to trust can all be affected by gaps in feeling connected, valued and safe. In everyday life it’s not often we get the space to really look at what is going on. My aim is to facilitate self-compassion and psychological flexibility.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

My core training is both Person-Centred and psychodynamic. The Person-Centred attention to developing relational depth enables the work to happen and exploring attachment styles and defense mechanisms can help make sense of unconscious behaviours. When/why were defenses needed and are they still helpful or causing pain? This gives a great opportunity for understanding my client's inner world.
