About me

Please message/email in the first instance - am not always free to take calls.

I studied integrative psychotherapy and counselling, with a fully holistic approach towards understanding all influences on clients; from early childhood onwards.

After 3-years in therapy myself (a standard course requirement) I really came to understand how much we can be affected by events in our lives, many of which we have forgotten yet they remain active in our subconscious, and how much we can benefit from releasing the negatives and enhancing the positives.

Am also writing a series of short self-help books - the first has just gone live on Amazon: "Anxiety and Addictions - break the cycle."

How My Sessions Are Run
I offer a free 20-minute, no obligation, introductory chat to get a feel for your concerns. Sessions are adapted to your needs and wishes, with a range of techniques chosen to suit you - and further adapted as we go, to suit what comes up and your state of mind on any given day. It is kind, caring process to help you go forward. There is never any criticism, only unconditional, positive regard and guidance, at a pace to suit you.
Please note: for the moment am only doing sessions online, via Skype/Zoom video, which work better than expected - face to face sessions will resume in the near future.
Face to face introductions are available at weekly 'Chatterbox' coffee mornings, where you are welcome to just drop in, no appointment required - please see below.

No one solution fits all so a range of techniques are employed, as required, including:

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Level 4 Diploma - in Psychotherapy and Counselling
  • Level 3 Diploma - in Psychotherapy and Counselling
  • Foundation Certificate - in Psychotherapy and Counselling

My client training began almost from day one in the Foundation course. It started with peers and, during the diploma, progressed to manning a drop-in centre, where anyone and everyone could come. It meant being able to deal with a wide variety of clients, with zero warning of the issues that would be presented; without any prejudice or judgement.
As a survivor of domestic violence, have found it particularly rewarding being able to help others, regardless of gender.

As BR Stone, writing a series of short books on a variety of mental health aspects. The first, "Anxiety and Addictions - break the cycle" is live on Amazon.

Chatterbox coffee mornings: I help run these every Wednesday, 10.30am -12.30pm, at the Cross and Stable Church in Milton Keynes, MK14 7RZ. Open to all, regardless of religious beliefs, with no need to book. This has been set up to help those needing to talk, especially after the impact of Covid-19. As well as free tea/coffee, even cake, there is wheelchair access and free parking just outside.

University of Silesia
While living in Poland (long story) had two years of hands-on teacher training at the university's English Language Study Centre. Spent 6 years teaching and helping to develop educational methodologies - having articles published and presenting at international conferences; including IATEFL Poland's Annual Conference in Kraków.
My students significantly out-performed their peers, from Beginner to CAE level - who were using traditional, grammar-based techniques.

Films and Documentaries
While in Poland I also wrote/produced/directed three feature-length films and an award-winning documentary, repeatedly broadcast on Canal+. Very challenging yet rewarding work, which gave access to some special locations - including the Rotunda church on the 20zl banknote.

Investigative Journalism
Another long story - have been an investigative television journalist, mostly undercover, for Channel 4 (Dispatches), Channel 5 and the BBC.

Other Education
2.1(hons) B.Eng degree in Production Engineering.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

As with the way I taught English, empowering students to help themselves while guiding them forward, I help clients get to the root causes of their issues. For example alcoholism; I don't focus on the drinking but on why they are drinking. If low-self esteem; where does it originate from and how has that manifested itself throughout their life? If depression; what is going on to block their needs being met? If relationship issues; what are they and what is not just causing them but continuing them?

For me, it is vital to really understand the person, to help that person understand themselves, what has been done to them and enabling positive change. At the end of the day, nobody wants to be unhappy and everybody deserves to be happy. No matter how low or stuck you feel right now, things can get better. Would be happy to hear from you.
