About me

Forming a relationship with your counsellor/therapist means you can tell your story, be fully heard and together find ways to heal and move forward in a healthy way.

In therapy, you have the space to truly be your whole self, explore your strengths and build a happier you, as defined by you.

My aim as your counsellor/therapist is to create that safe environment, where you can accept yourself fully and grow to love who you are.

My Approach:

My work primarily takes a Person-Centred approach, which means you are at the centre of the work we do together. I also identify as an Integrative therapeutic therapist, enabling me to utilise other therapeutic modalities such as the psychodynamic approach, which allow us to delve into any childhood issues and repeated patterns and fears, such as abandonment and attachment issues, where relevant and/or are impacting on your enjoyment of life today. This can be valuable when exploring cultural differences and identity issues. I also use Solution Focused Brief Therapy techniques.

The sessions follow your rhythm, and you decide the material we work on. The emphasis is on developing a relationship together that works for you. My role is to hear you fully and provide you with the space to explore what is at the heart of your distress.

Throughout our work, I will be open and respectful of your journey and life experience and of the work we do together. I will ensure the space can hold you when you are vulnerable as well as celebrate you and your achievements.

The space we create is yours and you will have the opportunity to be held as you navigate your challenges. I will have the privilege of working alongside you, maintaining confidentiality and being non-judgemental as well as empathetic.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training/Qualifications: I hold an undergraduate degree in nursing, a registered mental health nursing qualification and master’s degrees in public health, management and counselling & psychotherapy.

Experience: I have over 20 years of experience working with all aspects of mental health. I have a deep understanding of human suffering and the impact that suffering has on our ability to function fully or even to understand ourselves.

I have worked with anxiety, depression, psychosis, addiction, grief/bereavement, personality disorders, early onset of dementia. I have worked in NHS and private hospitals, prisons, and the community as well as for charitable organisations.

In addition, as a human rights activist, I advocated for the rights of the marginalised, focusing on domestic, sexual and structural abuse of women, girls and children, as well as rights of LGBTQI communities in spaces where it was criminalised. I spent years mentoring young women to become the versions of adults, they aspired to be.

During my 4 years Master’s training programme to become a therapist, as well as continuing with the mental health work, I worked within organisations supporting survivors of sexual abuse and those affected by addictions (alcohol and drugs). I also have experience of working with people struggling with identity and/or have self-esteem issues.

Working with therapy, exposed me to aspects of myself, I was never aware of let alone thought possible. Through this experience, I gained awareness of the impact of othering/discrimination, which related to my own lived experiences.

What inspires me: I am humbled when people disclose their vulnerabilities in the hope of finding alternatives to real change, thus release locked energy to flourish and move forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
