About me
Hello, my name is Barbara, I am a qualified counsellor. I offer solution-focused sessions, where we are looking at the issues you have been facing and coming up with techniques and tools that could help you cope with them. We will work together on exploring your negative thinking patterns and challenge them.

About you
You may feel stressed, anxious, depressed, angry or have another difficult emotion or several difficult emotions at the same time. We are living in a world that is constantly changing and there are triggering events/people/places around us, it is understandable that you may feel overwhelmed. These difficult emotions can have a huge impact on our lives and many times it can seem like they are not going away. Many of us are trying to avoid them, which can sometimes offer temporary relief, but unfortunately, the negative thoughts and emotions are then returning again. These can build up, if we are not dealing with them. Low self-esteem, perfectionism, procrastination and constant self-criticism can all add to feeling stuck, sad, anxious or angry.
During the therapy sessions, I am aiming to create a safe, non-judgemental space, where you can share your thoughts and emotions with me, at your own pace. Sometimes even just being listened to will release some stress. We will also talk about techniques to slow down the mind from rushing to one negative thought to another, looking at situations from different perspectives and learning about tools to understand yourself better, as well as find the best ways to cope with challenges you are facing.
About me
My main approach is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), that is a solution focused, mostly present oriented way of working. Talking about past events is of course also part of the therapy, but CBT is honing into the ways people can cope better in the present and the future. I have a background in psychology as well, that adds to my skill set. I am combining CBT with other approaches (e.g. mindfulness, self-compassion), based on the needs of the clients, to make sure everybody receives the support that suits them the best.
My previous experiences include working for NHS, supporting students at primary schools and colleges/universities, as well as at different charities and international companies. I have been working with a diverse group of people, and therefore, gained experience understanding many perspectives.
I have a special interest and experience working with people who have anxiety, panic attacks, and relationship problems, as well as working with people who have issues connected to pregnancy (pre/peri/postnatal) or infertility.
Next Steps
If you feel like taking the next step, please call me, text me, or email me to schedule in an approx. 15 minutes long free chat, where I would ask a few questions about the reasons you wish to have sessions, tell you a bit about the way I am working and also will have time for you to ask any questions you may have. Then, we will be able to decide whether we were a good fit to work with each other.
I am responding to enquiries within 48 hours.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
