About me

I am a BACP registered Humanistic Counsellor working in the Selby area, 15 miles from York and 15 miles from Goole. I am within easy reach of the surrounding villages such as Wistow, Escrick, Cawood and Sherburn. I run a private practice from my rural home. It is a unique counselling space offering complete privacy as well as a peaceful and therapeutic environment. There is easy and free parking.

Contacting a Counsellor can be daunting. There is so much choice, so many different forms of counselling and so many different Counsellors to choose from. All of this when perhaps you are feeling lost, confused, anxious... Remember, there is no right or wrong. Take your time to find what is right for you. I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation in order for you to have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to establish if you would like us to work together.

I work in collaboration with you, at your own pace. It is my belief that each individual is unique and as such I offer an integrative approach to suit you. I am very open in the way I work, valuing integrity and freedom. I mostly work from a light, airy and peaceful counselling room, but there is also the opportunity to work outside. Working outside can feel less intimidating. Clients have reported that they find it peaceful and tranquil. There is the opportunity to go for a walk in the countryside, or simply to find a seat in the 4 acres surrounding us. I aim to offer a safe space for you to explore what is happening in your life.

I am happy to help you with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, bereavement or relationship difficulties. I work with individuals as well as couples.

What ever you are feeling right now, please remember you are not alone. I offer a confidential empathic space for you to be heard.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
