About me
Why now?
The fact that you're here suggests that you already know what you need...
You've likely identified that you need support and time to focus on a current problem you're dealing with, or you've realised that you crave empathy, gentle guidance and support whilst you work through something challenging from your past.
Or perhaps both of these apply and you feel stuck and unable to move forward because your past is holding you back somehow.
Maybe though, you don't have a specific area to address- perhaps you've simply reached a point in your life where you want to understand, accept and love yourself more, or perhaps you don't feel as fulfilled in life as you would like, but you're unsure why and how to resolve this.
Well you've certainly come to the right place... because no matter what your issue or goal is, my aim is to create a warm, safe and welcoming space in which together, we can address it without judgement. Together we'll build a trusting space in which you'll likely feel able to truly be yourself, and be free to explore and overcome whatever challenges you're facing.
How I can help you
Are you:
- Struggling with your mental wellbeing?
- Finding it hard to develop or maintain relationships?
- Feeling a sense of lost identity?
- Stuck in indecision, unsure how to move forward?
- Wanting to create change but not sure where to start?
- Feeling a sense of burnout?
- Struggling with negative patterns of behaviour or mindset blocks
- Training to become a counsellor and want to engage in meaningful counselling as part of your course?
These are of course just some of the issues that I can help you with- life brings us all kinds of challenges, all of which you are welcome to bring to your sessions.
Why me?
I have 16 years of experience working therapeutically with both adults and young people in a variety of settings including my private counselling practice, private & state secondary education, corporate & public sector occupational health as well as addiction & recovery in HM Prisons.
This range of settings and clients has enabled me to develop an experienced, responsive and skillful style, drawing on tools and techniques in sessions that I feel are appropriate, and using my integrative theoretical background to help me understand your challenge, which in turn enables me to help you understand your challenge.
Some people find it useful to know the types of theoretical approach which inform my work but please don't worry about this if it doesn't feel relevant. I integrate Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Solution Focussed & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) therapeutic modalities, as well as some occasional Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques where appropriate.
The most important thing to take from this however, is that the fundamental aspects which thread through each session I carry out, are empathy, acceptance and authenticity. These are central to my work and will ensure you feel cared for and safe throughout our time together.
The counselling I offer is usually for a fixed term, although the number of sessions is entirely negotiable. For some, six sessions is enough, for others ten, twelve or twenty sessions may feel more suitable. Some people are unsure about what might be best, so we can discuss this once we get started.
My reason for working in such a way is that I believe it encourages people to fully engage, commit and get the most from each of their sessions. Each contract is agreed depending on your individual needs and can be re-negotiated at the end of a block- ie if twelve sessions have been completed but we feel further sessions are required to continue exploring the issue or look at a fresh challenge, this can be arranged.
Sessions are generally carried out weekly but can also be fortnightly if this meets your needs.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
