About me

My Name is Anne Marie, if you are feeling overwhelmed or struggling with sadness, anxiety or depression, therapy can support you and I am here to help.

All you need to do is email me or give me a call and we will take it from there; arranging an initial session if you would like to.

I am passionate and committed to supporting people develop a better sense of compassionate awareness within relation to themselves. I believe within each of us lies the potential for healing and change, no matter what the circumstances or how deep or dark the depths of trauma and experience may be. Sometimes we need the support of someone who is familiar with the territory, to help us navigate our way through certain stages of life and to process past events that have caused pain and suffering, and that might be leading to difficulties in the present.

I work in a relational, mindful, authentic and compassionate way, helping you to find your bearings and work through anything which causes suffering.

My main aim is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship within which you can safely share, explore and express all that you need to do. I have found that at times humour and a playful approach can help with this. The goal is for you to feel at ease, and able to work through all that you need to with me supportively accompanying you.

I draw from a wide range of different theories and ideas, I like this way because I believe that each person I encounter has their own unique individuality, I like to tailor make a model that works best for you based upon all that I have learnt academically and experienced in practice.

One of the key elements of my approach involves mindfulness, present moment awareness and body awareness. I am trained to work with the body and movement and have found this to be particularly useful especially when working with and through trauma. If this sounds interesting to you, we can incorporate it into the work.

I am also trained to work creatively, so if this something that you are interested in we can incorporate that too, this might include working with art materials, images, music, rhythm, stories, role play, poetry and other theatrical and creative techniques.

Training, qualifications & experience

In 2005 I completed a Masters Degree in Drama and Movement Psychotherapy. From this I gained extensive experience of working with a wide range of trauma within the charity sector and in educational settings.

I qualified as a Creative Arts Clinical Supervisor in 2010 and have worked within private practice since then. I also supervise creative arts therapy students and I am currently teaching on the Drama and Movement Therapy course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

In 2017 I qualified as Systemic Family Practitioner, this enabled me to work with families and couples.

Most recently I completed a Masters degree in Integrative Psychotherapy.

I currently work in private practice with adults.

I am a member with the professional registering bodies UK Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP) and The Health Professions Council (HCPC).

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
