About me

I am a BACP Accredited therapist and BUPA registered practitioner.  I respect the unique and individual way in which we all experience the world and I work with honesty, empathy and curiosity to the best of my ability to hear your story and try to understand and create meaning around your experiences. As such, I respond to and tailor my sessions to you, the client, whilst drawing on the theories of Existentialism, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Person Centered Therapy.

I believe we all have the capacity to change and I am dedicated to helping others bring about healing and growth. When life is tough it can challenge our emotional health and well being, making us feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed, angry or lacking in self esteem. My clients often find it difficult to put words to their feelings or to make any sense of what they are experiencing and this can be both frightening and isolating. Counselling can be a positive step, transformative and meaningful. Change is made possible through the supportive, non-judgmental, therapeutic relationship, which helps us to move towards acceptance of self or empowerment to change.

I welcome you into a safe space as a professional and over time we build trust. I will help you to put words and meaning to painful or confusing feelings in this supportive, quiet, non-judgmental space. I am trained to work online and also have therapy rooms in Hove and Chailey and work creatively where appropriate.  Please look at my web site for more about me and my work.

Training, qualifications & experience

PG Diploma at Brighton University in Humanistic Psycotherapeutic Counselling, Post Qualifying Diploma in "Teenage Therapy" (BACP Acc) and also on 'Working Therapeutically Online and via Telephone". I have also completed courses on Transactional Analysis, Alcohol and Drug Addiction Therapy, Grief Therapy and PTSD. I work with individuals from teenagers to the elderly and across different cultures.

I have worked 1-1 as a Life Coach for 5 years before training as a Counsellor. In addition to my private practice in Hove and Chailey, I work in the NGO/voluntary sector on addiction therapy and I previously worked with a wide range of clients in a group practice in Hove. I offer an initial consultation with no obligation to continue.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
