About me

I aim to help you find your way through life's challenges, either through coaching or with a counselling approach. My approach is about working positively, helping you focus on what is happening for you in the moment. We can use creative ways to help you see things from a different view when words simply can not be found. The use of drawings, objects and metaphors can be very freeing helping to find new clarity and awareness.

There is no pressure at all to work in this way if it is not for you. I tailor my approach to best suit your needs. You will find me warm, empathetic, a very good listener, whilst being very down to earth, providing you with a safe and non- judgemental space.

My belief is you already have the resources within you to make a change.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma of Higher Education in Humanistic Gestalt Counselling
  • Level 3 ABC Counselling Skills
  • Basics in Counselling Skills
  • Trained Life Coach with the Coaching Academy
  • I hold several nursing and management qualifications

I have a varied work background that has given me a wide range of life experiences. I spent over twenty years in the NHS working as a nurse, latterly as a paediatric nurse specialist. I left the role to focus on bringing up my children and during this time trained as a Life Coach I then worked in a secondary school to mentor young people to identify their blocks to learning and raise their self-confidence. I also worked for the British Red Cross empowering vulnerable groups in delivering everyday first aid.

I currently work part-time at a university working with students in crisis. It was this combination of experiences, as well as my passion in seeing people discover for themselves their own possibilities that led me re-train as a counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
