About me

Hi, my name is Andrea Sartor and I am a registered HCPC Counselling psychologist in England and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. Most importantly, I am someone who can help and support change during the toughest times in your life. I am here for you and you don't have to face life challenges alone.

How I can help

I help adults who have been struggling with answers to some of life’s difficult questions and frustrating situations. Through therapy, I work with clients to find hidden meaning and then give them practical skills on how to improve.

I support people in exploring their past and uncovering the underlying patterns that impact their lives. Life brings so many ups and downs and you do not have to go through this alone. My goal is to help people make changes in their lives which will result in a positive impact in their life’s journey.

No matter what the issues you are bringing to therapy, I can provide a compassionate and understanding environment to help you pave a path of growing and healing. I offer a safe space to work with individuals through life stress, transitions, painful experiences, & overall wellness.

Working through life challenges can be difficult and I aim to empower clients and create a safe non-judgemental space for process and change to happen. In my practice, I have worked with many clients of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and I have a passion for working with young professionals.

I'm also trained to diagnose adults with ADHD by using psychometric assessments: including the Conners rating scale and the WAIS-IV scale. I will also  require a clinical interview before I complete the diagnostic report. Please contact me today (https://www.blueroots.co.uk/adhd-assessments) to book a free consultation to go over the process and see if this is what you are looking for.

Why seek therapy now

Giving yourself the gift of therapy can help you make the changes that you desire for yourself and for your family. If you are overwhelmed struggling to make meaning, feeling irritable, stressed out, feeling isolated, depressed, or anxious. I can help you overcome some of the most difficult challenges that you are facing.

It's not always easy to express our personal thoughts and emotions because it can be a vulnerable experience for us. However, I assure you that we will work collaboratively on therapeutic goals to bring meaning to what you want and what you don’t want in life. It’s important to know you, your struggles, your strengths, your values, your passions, and what you hope to get out of therapy.

I know from my 15 years of clinical experience working with individuals in: (community clinics, school districts, non-profit organizations, hospitals, and residential treatment centers)

that the hard work that is done in therapy is worth it. I welcome the challenges that you are facing and will approach them with grace and empathy.

Finding the right therapist can be scary. It takes a lot of courage to begin the search and build trust. I value this process and am honoured to be a part of this sacred therapeutic relationship. I believe every individual has the strength within to grow and change. Having a safe space to reflect, learn, and explore can be helpful in life’s journey.

My treatment modalities

My treatment approach is an eclectic approach because I know from experience that not one therapeutic model will work for everyone. I will tailor your treatment to what will work for you. My practice was born from the desire to help people feel empowered, fulfilled, and joyful in their lives. I strive to help my clients find happiness through humour and positive thinking and I always meet them where they are and what they are working on.

One of the most effective therapeutic models that I provide to my clients is Dialectic Behavioural Therapy skills. DBT is a type of skill-based therapy that focuses on four vital areas of mental health. These areas include distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. I also incorporate creative therapeutic interventions using art and music to help my clients explore and strengthen their authentic selves so that they can create a life worth living.

I specialize in treating adults and couples and I use an eclectic approach to assessment, diagnosis, and counselling. I have specialized training and experience in providing therapy from the following approaches: DBT, cognitive-behavioural (CBT), person-centred, gestalt, art, play, music, psychodynamic, narrative, emotionally focused, solution-focused, behavioural, attachment-based, and teaching mindfulness. I also have extensive experience in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, phobia, eating disorders, learning disabilities, trauma-related issues, and other complex mental health disorders.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am originally from California and trained to become a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist while I was living in the States. When I moved to London I transferred my Marriage and Family Therapist License, my credentials, and all of my experience to the Health and Care Professions Council and they registered me as a Counselling Psychologist.

I have over 15 years of working in the mental health industry. My experience includes study, evidence-based research training, and clinical practice consulting clients of all ages with various needs and different backgrounds. I have been blessed with the opportunity of working as a therapist and a psychologist in two countries and spent the last three years living in Europe and working in London to build up my private practice.

I have lived in London for 4 years now and have spent the first two years working with inpatient and outpatient clients at The Priory hospital in North London and at the Priory Wellbeing Centre on Fenchurch street in Central London.

I've spent the last year branching out on my own and building up a successful private practice in various office locations in Central London.

I am registered with numerous professional bodies, including the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC, PYL 35436) and the Board of Behavioural Science of California (LMFT 103929). I went to school in Salt Lake City Utah and attended a private liberal arts college to earn my BSc degree in Psychology and then went to a private college to obtain my MSc degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. After college, I moved to San Francisco California, and trained to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

News
Recently, I was featured in Cosmopolitan UK (https://bit.ly/35b3loj) to discuss the harmful effects of excessive alcohol use and how it can fabricate sexual dysfunction. It was such a lovely experience to contribute to this fantastic article and I am so excited to have my name and company featured in Cosmopolitan. I remember reading these kinds of articles when I was a teen and I always learned so much about wellness and psychology and now I am an expert giving content to these articles. In this particular editorial, I discuss the harmful risks that excessive alcohol use can have on your body's natural ability to enjoy sex and in extreme cases can cause sexual dysfunction. It also discusses the impact of alcohol intoxication and how it can affect the ability for someone to give proper consent when engaging in "Drunk Intoxicated Sex." I hope you enjoy this read and you are able to learn something new because knowledge is power.
