About me
It’s important for you to know that the first session is for you to assess how you feel about the counselling process. You are not obliged to commit yourself to any session other than the one you have booked. Having a no obligation initial conversation allows you the space to make an informed decision in embarking on that first counselling session. I believe this to be a fundamental part of assessing if I may be the right therapist for you.
I appreciate how past events can affect clients’ daily lives, I work with clients to identify a primary focus helping to make sense of difficulties in the context of the client’s life right now. This means that I place an importance in exploring the root cause of emotional pain whilst working to find a way forward that is best for you. I understand that a trusting relationship is key to working collaboratively with clients to explore past relationships and desired changes for the future. I believe in the value of honesty by creating a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental environment where you can talk freely and openly about your experience. This is the core of my approach. I aim, with truth and integrity, to explore the difficulties and challenges you are experiencing in your life. We will work together to detangle these issues and events.
I am trained to work with the client’s preference for modality and pace. Drawing on a range of theories including Person centred, Psychodynamic and CBT, sessions are tailored to best suit a client’s needs with a goal-oriented vision of the future, offering support to determine the skills and resources within one's self to achieve that vision successfully.
In building a foundation for the counselling relationship, I use the bedrock of trust, empathy and respect for clients. I stress the importance of being Real. Being real creates the trust that is necessary for my clients to want to share their problems. Feeling regard for the client can gradually lower their defences and together we can slowly explore their feelings and beliefs around the core of their problem. Together we revisit the past where often the root of the problem lies - returning to childhood is an important step in the resolving and healing process. Sometimes the client can emerge from this exploration with fresh insights and an understanding, not just of their childhood, but of where they are in the present. Negative and self-destructive thinking patterns can be dismantled and a rekindling of compassion and kindness towards oneself can develop. I feel it is foundational in my work to help my clients return to what is real within their being, to reconnect them to what is most meaningful in their lives and to encourage them to live their lives, fully participating with the whole of their being.
Sessions are 50 minutes and concessions are available for those unable to pay the full fee. I endeavour to meet the financial needs of clients.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
