About me

I was a client before I was a counsellor and I know from experience that seeking support isn't always easy. My first priority is to make accessing support as stress free as possible by establishing an informal yet supportive environment. By creating a space which is free of judgement and where there is no problem more or less worthy than another, I've helped many people work through some of their toughest moments. I've helped clients of various ages and from a range of backgrounds work through issues including anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, loneliness, relationships, domestic / sexual abuse, loss and trauma.

Training, qualifications & experience

Alongside my private work, I have worked with a range of clients in various settings, including offering end of life and bereavement counselling to patients and their families at a hospice and with young people (16-25) at a mental health charity in central Manchester.

As well as running my private practice, I lecture on the undergraduate and postgraduate psychotherapy and counselling courses at the University of Salford.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

As well as face to face sessions, I offer telephone and Zoom sessions as well as outdoor or 'eco' therapy. The outdoor sessions are held in Reddish Vale Country Park and combine the elements of a traditional therapy sessions with the great outdoors.

Drop me an email or a text to set up an initial free of charge consultation. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and will allow me to explain a little more about the service. It will also give you the chance to get a better idea of me and how I work; this is highly important as the relationship is fundamental to the work.
