About me

Hi, my name is  Adriana. I offer long or short-term counselling (Person-Centred approach) online via Zoom or by telephone, to adults and young people. I am also able to offer sessions in Romanian and French.

Life can be a roller-coaster and as such the emotions that accompany our various life experiences can be at times powerful, overwhelming and difficult to manage daily. As a result, you might be feeling depressed, lonely, sad, angry, anxious, stuck, unsettled, like you’ve lost your way…. Whatever is troubling you, I am here to listen.

Although you might have a friend or family member to talk to about what is concerning you, their own feelings and judgements, can stop you from approaching them as you don’t feel fully heard or understood - you don’t feel safe. My hope/aim is that the therapeutic relationship we build together will become a safe space for you. A space where you can say the unsayable, without anyone’s thoughts but your own to consider.

I believe we each have our own inner wisdom and the ability to find our own way forward. No one knows better than yourself what is going in on for you, the emotional impact of these experiences on your daily life. My role is to facilitate your counselling journey, support you, talking together about your concerns and explore your emotions, so that you can better understand your own thoughts and feelings, find your own new ways of looking at yourself and the world around you, get to know yourself better. I always aim to work alongside you and at a pace that suits you.

I want you to come away from our sessions feeling as if you've been truly heard and understood. With a gentle, warm, genuine and grounding energy, I can offer my attentive listening and the ability to reflect experiences accurately and clearly, offering a perspective that might be hard to achieve when you are in the midst of a situation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a background of working with migrants and the intrinsic identity and mental health complexities that arise in the process of leaving one’s country to settle and find home in a foreign one. This led me to want to learn more about mental health in general, which then opened my path towards studying Person-Centred Counselling. I also have considerable professional experience of working in 3rd sector mental health crisis support services, supporting people of all ages and backgrounds, struggling with a variety of mental health problems and the impact of trauma.

My yoga practice and teaching are opening up windows of wisdom, knowledge and opportunity regarding a more holistic understanding of mental health, in which the body has as much of a vital role as the mind in expressing, storing and processing emotions.

I have experience of working with young people and adults, in long and short term counselling, dealing with issues ranging from stress, depression and anxiety (work or studying), bullying to relationship/family concerns and loss.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

The decision to seek counselling/therapy is often not a simple one but once taken it marks a commitment to care for yourself and better understand yourself. I offer a free initial consultation. This can be an informal 20 minutes call to give us the opportunity to talk a little about your needs, the way I work and to check if our schedules fit.

Following our initial conversation, I provide 50-minute online or phone counselling sessions at a rate of £40 per hour.

If you’re interested in counselling with me, please get in touch and we can arrange a free initial consultation.

I want you to feel confident in your choice to start sessions with me, so there's no obligation to book a follow-on session if it doesn't feel right for you.
