About me

Welcome & thank you for checking out my profile.

If after looking through, you have any questions - please feel free to email or text me. If you would like to arrange a free consultation all the details are on this page.

My role and approach

There are so many therapists on here, and thousands of people looking for private support on a daily basis - you are not alone, despite how it may feel! My profile is not here to compete with other therapists for your custom. It is my intention to give you a flavour of what my approach is and if this matches the kind of thing you are after then please get in touch. Otherwise, there may be others out there that suit you better.

You may feel nervous at the thought of starting or restarting therapy - this is extremely common and understandable. When I work with my clients, I prioritise making them feel as settled, assured and understood as possible early on. Rapport, confidentiality and boundaries are key to making the therapeutic relationship feel like it’s safe and working.

I have supported many people in different settings and states of need or crisis for 15 years. From experience, I have learned to have no fixed template when supporting people. Your needs will be different to the next and as we work together, we will build rapport. I will apply my counselling skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in navigating your challenges to reach your goals.

It is my intention to be respectful, compassionate and understanding to you and what you bring to our sessions. I like to set a relaxing, conversational environment for you to feel safe and engage more comfortably in the process.
Beneath the therapist, there is a human with a varied life lived and a personality within. Whilst I maintain professionalism throughout, I believe that people feel most at ease when they feel connected to other humans. Through my role to you and my commitment to being real, I will offer a relatable and effective approach to your issues

Free consultation

To assist you in making the right choice for you, I offer a free consultation over the phone or Zoom/TEAMS to talk a little about your situation, needs and expectations both from therapy and the therapist.

From this consultation, I have enough professional and self awareness to know if I can support you. I have had so many great clients during my time in practice. They have made amazing progress and achieved what they set out to get.

Further down this page, you will find the types of issues that I offer based upon what may have happened to you or that you may be experiencing now and in the future.

What the title and experience means

I remember many years ago, I was looking for a counsellor. There was a site like this one with therapists carrying lots of titles and using lots of jargon that made it feel like a minefield for something personal and fragile that I was carrying.

To be accredited; counsellors are required to evidence an experienced and ethical working competence in practice and commit to continued professional development. From this, I am on an accredited register of counsellors through a recognised professional counselling body known as the BACP.

I work with an enhanced knowledge of the impact, effects and dynamics of trauma to practice with greater awareness and consideration to your needs when working with traumatic situations and memories.

As an integrative counsellor, I have studied and qualified in a number of therapeutic approaches and adapt these to support you with the issues that you bring.

Life can be very difficult and unrelenting times. It can hurt us, and cause a disconnect from who we recognise ourselves to be or want to be. Whether your needs are based on a past, current &/or future situations I will sit and join you to help navigate, understand and process these to the assist in your recallibration.

The therapeutic space

I offer private and confidential sessions in person and remotely.

I carry out "in person" sessions in a comfortable and professional setting in Maldon High Street. The room allows for privacy and calmness for our sessions together. Parking and bus connections are very close by. The premises is friendly and welcoming, and sessions are hosted on the 1st floor of the premises.

Remote support - online and telephone based counselling

Some people are sceptical about counselling that is not delivered "in the room". You may worry that you aren't getting the full experience or consider it a lesser service. This simply isn't so - its an alternative option that may suit your circumstance or lifestyle more. As well as my core counselling training, I enrolled in further education to adapt my counselling skills to remote settings and I am pleased to be an accredited telephone and online based counsellor.

What to expect in your first session

For the therapy to work, it is really important that you feel relaxed and that we get on. I am told by many clients that I put them at ease early on - I like to be authentic and talk human to human when we work together. Some preconceptions & television often shows therapists to be quite wooden and clinical - I am really not like that!

Prior to our first session, I would encourage for us to have a free consultation on the phone at a suitable time. If you decide to go ahead, we will book an appointment and I will forward some information for you to read and complete.

The purpose of the first session is to get to know you a little more and set out the plan. In this, we will map out what has happened to you throughout life that has led up to this point? Further we will look at:

  • What your goals and hopes are from the therapy.
  • What you already do that works for you?
  • What you know that you are doing that isn't serving you (Yep, we all do these things and it is time to face up to it!)

It is my aim to make the therapy feel safe and contained to do this we will discuss boundaries, expectations and a therapeutic contract.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
