About me

Hi, I’m Abby. I know finding support in times of need can be overwhelming, so thank you for being here. If you’re on this page, I imagine things may be feeling difficult, and you may be seeking a place of comfort to talk openly. Perhaps you’re struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression, coping after a huge life event, struggling with your identity or maintaining relationships. What I hope to offer is a place of healing and growth in which you will feel connected and confident to talk about all that’s coming up for you.

As a relational, trauma informed counsellor, I aim to build a safe and healthy working environment with my clients. In my work I am gentle, holding and empathetic. I am lead by you, and will always focus on going at your pace. Working as a relational therapist means that I also place great value on the fact that a counselling relationship is an equal, balanced relationship. To me this means we are human beings; meeting, building trust, learning, communicating.

My speciality is (but not limited to) working in domestic and sexual abuse, supporting clients through the aftermath of both historic and recent abuse. In this work I have learnt to listen, empower and support my clients to help them grow and navigate their way to a place of healing. Working as a trauma informed counsellor allows me to both understand your trauma, and as we work through it provide awareness and management tools to support how it is affecting your daily life. I believe a trauma informed counselling relationship relies on core values of trust, autonomy and consent.

I hold intersectional and feminist values and am sensitive to both the external and internal factors to our experiences. This means recognising that wider societal issues may impact the work we do, as well as your personal experiences.

I am offering open ended in person sessions in a space in Shrewsbury with disability access, and limited online sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
