About me
Thank you for clicking on my profile, I understand you or someone you care about may be suffering to come to terms with an event or struggling with their emotions at the moment. Over the next few paragraphs, I will introduce myself and explain what I will be able to do for you or your loved one. If you have any questions at any stage, please do contact me and I'll happily answer any queries you have.
I have been a counsellor for over 15 years now. My clients describe me as a warm, caring person who offers empathy in a safe confidential environment.
I am an Integrative Counsellor which means I am able to draw upon different theories while working with a client as I am aware that all clients are different, they have different needs, and some theories may not work for some clients.
Is Counselling Right For You?
Sometimes in life we get stuck, we may not be able to make sense of what is going on in our lives, working with a counsellor can help the client move forward. I believe that someone who enters into counselling has great courage to admit that they have an issue and wish to enter into the counselling process.
Counselling is about the client being able to share their thoughts and feelings in their time and at their pace, it is about being heard and respected. It can help the client recognise and to draw on their strengths and recourses, in order to deal with life’s challenges in a positive way that is right for them.
What To Expect
I see clients on a once weekly bases, I contract with the client for six weeks and then review how the client is feeling and where they feel they are in the process.
I offer morning, afternoon and evening appointments. I work from home as I have found it is a more comfortable environment.
Online and telephone Sessions
In addition to face-to-face sessions, I can also offer email and telephone sessions to clients who aren't able to make face to face appointments.
They work in the same way as face-to-face sessions; we start with you telling me what brings you to counselling and I can guide you through this difficult time and help you overcome these issues.
I have previously worked with the eating disorder charity BEAT as a telephone counsellor, so I have a very in-depth experience in this field.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an accredited, registered counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association of counsellors and Psychotherapists).
I have a Diploma in Eating Disorders,2006; Professional Certificate in Eating Disorders Part 1, 2005; Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, 2004; Certificate in Counselling Theory, 2002; Certificate in Counselling Skills, 2001.
I have also attended many courses as part of my on going professional development.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
