About me

Therapy can really make a difference when you encounter challenges your life. I offer a warm, supportive and confidential therapeutic space to work. I work on the basis of weekly 60 minute face to face sessions. I offer an initial session for us to explore what brings you to therapy at this time and to give you an opportunity to decide whether I am a person you want to work with. The relationship between us is important to the success of therapy. I agree with you the initial duration of therapy and we review this at intervals.

I am a psychosynthesis psychotherapist and I offer short term counselling and long term psychotherapy. I have on going professional development, I work within the ethics of UKCP and BACP, my work is supervised appropriately and I am fully insured. I am trained supervisor of therapists.

My approach is practical, seeking to support you in deepening your understanding of yourself and the beliefs and attitudes that may be underlying your choices about your life. It involves looking at your life experience, your relationships with family, work and community. The context is one of unfolding and coming wholeness, aligned with all that your are seeking to be and finding meaning in your world. We do this through talking in therapy and by using other tools such as drawing and visualisations.

My work includes attention to the relationship between our body, our emotions and our thoughts and how these can be engaged in the work of healing.  We will work on both inner and external experiences. The body has important messages for us, where we hold emotions, tensions & memories. How these are experienced by you will inform our work.

My approach is informed by mindfulness and the lessons from neuroscience and draws on Somatic Experiencing and other models of healing trauma in the body. I feel that the key aim is to find meaning in our life and come home to ourselves.

My interest in body and body mind draws deeply on my work in qigong and tai chi.

I am based in South West London close to Balham and Tooting Bec tube stations.

I worked for 32 years in NHS management and trained as a psychotherapist whilst working. I decided to leave to work full time as a therapist because this work and the potential for healing is important to me.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Psychosynthesis is an approach to therapy developed by psychologist Roberto Assagioli. It takes into consideration each of us as a whole person our sexuality, our spirituality, our body, emotions & mind.

It is a practical and deeply compassionate approach to supporting our life journey towards wholeness and recognises that within each of us is an inner wisdom.

Each of us is more than our history and we work with our potential to grow and become more truly our self - our journey is one of coming to wholeness.

The aim of the work is to help people discover their true essence & purpose, & moving through their distress to find healing.
