About me
Please note: I am not available in August
It can be confusing knowing where to begin when looking for a counsellor. With this in mind, I offer the first session at a reduced rate so that we have the chance to meet and explore what brings you to counselling; you will experience my way of working, be able to gauge if you feel comfortable with me and be in a more informed position to decide if you would like to continue. There is no obligation to continue after this session; there are many different counselling approaches and ways of working, and it is important that you find the person and approach that works for you.
To give you some information about myself: I am an experienced person-centred counsellor working with individuals in the Eastbourne area (you can find more information on the person-centred approach on my website). I work with adults, and children and young people. I work on establishing a therapeutic relationship which is friendly, non-judgmental, and safe, so that even the most difficult issues can be explored. This joint exploration can relieve painful feelings, and can help clarify the way forward.
I have worked in private practice since 2007, counselling both adults and children with a wide range of presenting difficulties. I have a special interest and specialism in bereavement, having volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Care for many years, working first with bereaved adults, then children and young people, and finally, as a Supervisor, supervising bereavement volunteers. I also supervised groups of bereavement volunteers at St.Wilfrid's Hospice.
I was a teacher, and linked my interests in teaching/training when I worked for four years as a tutor on counselling courses at Sussex Downs College, teaching on counselling skills courses.
I have worked in a freelance capacity for various charities and organisations, providing counselling and supervision.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
