About me

Hello my name is Zena, I have over 20 years experience of providing therapy for trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment issues as well as a wide range of issues.

I can appreciate that going to counselling, especially for the first time can be a daunting experience and it can be hard to take that first step.

I offer a non judgemental and confidential space to explore.

In my private practice I work with a wide variety of concerns, such as relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, abuse, feelings of emptiness, problems with coping and lack of confidence.

A bit about me:

Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor:

  • Providing individual counselling for adults, couples, and adolescents with a wide range of issues.
  • Providing clinical supervision for counsellors.
  • I also work with adoptive families through their adoption support teams.

I have been working as counsellor and psychotherapist for over 20 years. Alongside my general practice, I have worked with LAC Children and Families, primarily through their Permanency and Post Adoption Service, offering therapeutic services to Adopted children, parents, and their families. This has included preparing children for permanency, supporting transitions to adoption, and supporting placements thereafter.

I work in a collaborative way, tailoring my approach to the presenting needs and problems of my clients. As a humanistic counsellor, I believe that human beings seek to grow and move towards a deeper understanding and acceptance of themselves and others. The process of developing a therapeutic relationship is central to the work. This is based on my belief that much healing, growth and understanding occurs in this setting and in the relationship.

My practice is informed by various pieces of training, these qualifications are listed below. This diversity gives me the ability to work flexibly and creatively according to the needs of my client or clients.

I continue to study and attend training days on a regular basis. I am very interested in neuroscience and how this can help us gain a greater understanding of our emotional worlds.

I have had the experience of working as a therapist in a psychotherapy department, counsellor for a youth counselling organisation, Various Adoption Agencies, Local Authority’s, EAP’S and private practice.

I am a BACP member and I adhere to the Code of Ethics and practices of the (BACP) British Association of Counsellors and Therapists. As part of continued professional development, I regularly attend study days and training. I receive regular clinical supervision.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
