About me

Hello, my name is Vanessa and I'm a Clinical Psychologist. I have spent my career helping other people to work towards their goals and improve their mental wellbeing. I appreciate therapy can be daunting and speaking to other people about your difficulties is not an easy step to make. We can work together to understand what has been going on for you and how your difficulties have been impacting on your quality of life. Once we have got to know each other we would come up with a bespoke plan and an intervention to help you meet your goal. I will guide you through this and we will go on the journey together!

Training, qualifications & experience

Therapies I use:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for the treatment of anxiety, including social anxiety, phobias, and obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD) and Trauma informed CBT - for trauma memories
  • Behavioural activation for low mood
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) informed principles to support clients with issues around distress tolerance, regulating emotions, and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Flash technique for the treatment of traumatic experiences including flashbacks and memories associated with distress. The evidence suggests that this treatment can be effective from the first session

In training:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of clients suffering with a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other debilitating trauma-related symptoms
  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) principles are helpful to think about how we relate to ourselves and others. CAT can be used for a variety of difficulties including low mood and anxiety

Neurodevelopmental queries:

I have experience of assessing and working with people with neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I am thereby trained in specialist areas of neurodevelopmental assessment, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). Whilst I do not provide full neurodevelopmental assessments, I can offer neurodevelopmental screening assessments. This can help parents to experience speedy, and reliable guidance as to whether you would require referral for a full neurodevelopmental assessment or if a differential diagnosis can be discussed without advancing to further significant and unnecessary costs from a full private assessment. These appointments are up to 3 hours long.

My full list of qualifications can be found on LinkedIn.
