Hello and welcome. I'm Tina Chummun, a UKCP accredited psychotherapist and trauma specialist, offering online person centred therapy across the UK and internationally. I'm based in Kettering, Northamptonshire and Thornton Heath, South London, and I work with adults from all backgrounds, including those in Northampton, Corby, Leicester, London and beyond.

My approach is grounded in person centred therapy, trauma informed practice and neuroscience, integrating an understanding of how your nervous system responds to trauma with deep compassion for who you are and where you've come from. I don't just explore what happened to you; I help you understand how it continues to live in your body, your mind and your relationships.

I have a particular specialism in South Asian mental health, intergenerational trauma, culturally sensitive therapy and the intersection of identity, heritage and emotional wellbeing. I also work extensively with menopause and perimenopause therapy, complex trauma and developmental trauma, professional burnout, and clients navigating grief, anxiety and relationship difficulties.

I'm currently completing a Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care at The Open University, with research focused on the lived experiences of Indian Mauritian family caregivers supporting a loved one with dementia. This research deepens my cultural awareness and commitment to offering a socially informed, high quality therapeutic experience.

I draw on neuroscience, neurobiology and person centred therapy to help you understand not just what happened, but how it continues to live in your body, mind and relationships. My work is grounded in science, culture and compassion, offering you a space that’s sensitive to both trauma and identity.

As featured in national media

My clinical expertise is regularly featured in national publications including The Telegraph, The Independent, the Daily Mail, Stylist, Psychologies and Healthline. I'm frequently invited to contribute trauma informed, neuroscience grounded insights on topics ranging from childhood emotional neglect and intergenerational trauma to menopause, cultural identity and relationship dynamics. You can explore my full media contributions at care2counsel.com/media

I specialise in working with:
✔️ Childhood sexual abuse survivors
✔️ Domestic violence and PTSD
✔️ South Asian family trauma
✔️ Menopause and perimenopause mental health
✔️ Bereavement and grief
✔️ Burnout, anxiety and emotional overwhelm
✔️ Clients using medication for mental health support
✔️ Professionals and carers navigating stress or life change

Who I work best with

I work particularly well with high achieving professionals, South Asian and mixed heritage women and men, and trauma survivors who feel their experiences are "too complicated" or "too cultural" for standard therapy. If you've tried therapy before and found it didn't go deep enough, or didn't understand your cultural background, you may find our work together feels different. I also work with clients who are intellectually curious about their own psychology, those using AI tools to support their mental health between therapy sessions, and anyone who is ready to move from surviving to genuinely living.

My fee reflects the clinical depth, specialism and care I bring to this work, you’re not just paying for therapy, but for meaningful, skilled support tailored to you. I don’t work with clients just to take their money. We work together with the goal that one day, you’ll no longer need me. Therapy with me is designed to help you feel supported, resourced and confident enough to leave when you're ready (even if that means having two or three therapy sessions) and proud of the progress you've made.

If you’re using AI platforms like ChatGPT to support your mental health, I welcome that. It tells me you’re resourceful and self-aware. Many of my clients use AI tools between therapy sessions, and I help them explore their insights with depth and emotional clarity. It’s important to choose a therapist who respects both your internal world and your evolving digital one.

When I’m not working with clients, I’m journalling with strong tea, walking outdoors or enjoying deep conversations with close friends. I live this work as well as offer it, so I can bear witness to and hold your story with clarity, depth and care.

Are you feeling stuck in survival mode, exhausted, disconnected, anxious or carrying pain that others can’t see?

You may have experienced trauma, whether from childhood, sexual abuse, cultural or family dynamics, or the long, slow ache of emotional neglect. When those experiences are not seen or named, your nervous system can stay on high alert, long after the danger has passed.

I believe therapy isn’t about ‘fixing’ you. It’s about making space for the parts of you that adapted, survived, and are now ready for a different kind of life. Many clients find it helpful to begin with a block of 6 weekly sessions to build momentum, but we will always work at your pace, your rhythm.

Healing is possible. Not because you're broken, but because you're ready.

If any part of this resonates with you, if you’ve been wondering whether therapy could help you feel more grounded, more “yourself,” or just more able to breathe, please reach out to me.

I offer online only therapy sessions, with flexibility for those balancing work or family life.

You can send me a message through this page or visit https://care2counsel.com/ to learn more.

Together, we’ll work gently and steadily, so you can stop just surviving and start living again.

If you choose to reach out to me, please know this: I will always do my best to respond within the hour if I’m available, and certainly within the same day during my working and waking hours. I understand how much courage it can take to make that first contact with a therapist, it’s no small thing. That bravery deserves to be met with respect, warmth and responsiveness. So if you’re ready, I’ll be here.

You're definitely not alone in any of the above and support is available to you. Navigating the complexities of trauma and anxiety can be overwhelming, but you don't have to face them alone. Over the years, I have successfully helped men and women tackle a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety, depression and panic attacks
  • Anger management and emotional regulation
  • Relationship and family issues
  • Trauma, shame and self-blame
  • Cultural identity, discrimination and bullying
  • Career struggles, life coaching and self-direction
  • Bereavement, grief and loneliness
  • Emotional abuse, addiction and self-destructive patterns
  • Low self-confidence, low self-esteem and low self-worth
  • Suicidal thoughts and feelings of hopelessness
  • Stress, burnout and feeling lost in life
  • Menopause counselling and emotional well-being

With a BSc in Chemistry with Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Contemporary Person Centred Psychotherapy, I bring genuine scientific depth to the relational work we do together. My approach integrates person centred therapy with neuroscience and neurobiology, which means I can help you understand your mind-body connection, how your nervous system responds to trauma, and practical, evidence informed strategies for nervous system regulation and emotional healing.

This is particularly helpful for clients experiencing complex trauma, developmental trauma, PTSD, anxiety, stress and menopause related psychological changes. Beyond theory, I bring warmth, cultural fluency and a real understanding of how identity, race and lived experience shape the way we process emotion and seek support.

I've provided therapy in leading services, including the Woman’s Trust, Wandsworth Bereavement Service, One in Four and within the NHS at The Havens, King’s College London. Alongside this, I have spent over 10 years in private practice, where I offer a safe, confidential and tailored approach, always working with your best interests at heart.

Ready to take the first step? Please get in touch and let's talk about how I can support you.

Worried about opening up? It's completely normal to feel this way

It’s completely understandable to feel nervous, embarrassed or even ashamed about reaching out for support. But let me reassure you, seeking therapy is not a weakness, it’s an incredible act of strength. Prioritising your mental health is one of the most empowering steps you can take and I would be honoured to support you on this journey.

Based in Kettering and Thornton Heath, I offer online only therapy across the UK and internationally, so whether you're navigating trauma in South London or managing burnout from Birmingham, support is just a click away.

Many of my clients have found online therapy to be even more beneficial than in person sessions, as it allows them to feel safe in their own environment. Being in a familiar space means your body feels secure, reducing anxiety and enabling you to share difficult or intimate experiences more openly, without worrying about how I might react in person.

I have been working exclusively online for several years, and my clients consistently find this approach effective, supportive and deeply transformative.

I am deeply passionate about my work and that means I welcome the opportunity to work with you, helping you get the support, guidance and self-care you deserve.

As a UKCP accredited psychotherapist, my training was extensive and rigorous, which means my practice follows the highest ethical standards. UKCP accreditation also means I receive regular clinical and professional collegial supervision, ensuring I continue to work ethically, safely and always in the best interest of your mental health.

What a therapy session looks like

Therapy is your space, one where you can feel safe, seen, heard and supported. Our sessions will focus on you: your experiences, emotions and the changes you want to create in your life. In a warm, non-judgemental and compassionate environment, we will work together to explore:

  • Why you think the way you do and where these thought patterns come from
  • How your past experiences may be shaping your present
  • What changes you want to make and how to move towards them

Your first session

Many people feel nervous before their first therapy session, that's completely normal and I want to reassure you. Your first session is simply a chance for us to meet, for you to tell me a little about what's brought you to therapy, and for me to answer any questions you might have. There is no pressure to share everything at once. We move at your pace, always. By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer sense of whether working with me feels right for you, and that matters more than anything else.

It’s normal to feel uncertain about sharing personal details with someone new, but you won’t be doing this alone. I will be there every step of the way, helping you untangle difficult thoughts, make sense of your emotions and develop a clearer, more compassionate understanding of yourself.

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you, you are not broken. It’s about helping you discover, grow and find new ways to navigate life with more confidence, clarity and self-compassion.

What you can expect from therapy

You are the expert of your life. No one knows your thoughts, feelings and experiences better than you do. My role as your therapist is to work alongside you, offering professional support as we uncover what you need to feel fulfilled, empowered and more in control of your life.

We will work collaboratively to:

  • Identify what’s holding you back and why
  • Explore new perspectives and healthier coping mechanisms
  • Create meaningful changes that align with your goals

In your therapy sessions, we will work together in a way that feels safe, supportive and meaningful to you. Through gentle exploration of your thoughts, emotions and experiences, you will begin to gain deeper self-awareness, uncovering patterns that may be holding you back and develop practical, effective coping strategies to navigate life’s challenges.

My approach is empathetic, non-judgemental and fully tailored to your unique needs, because no two people experience life in the same way. Whether you're looking for clarity, healing or personal growth, I will provide a space where you can feel truly heard, seen, understood and supported on your journey toward positive change.

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, this is your journey and I will adapt my psychotherapy approach to fit you. Whether you need a safe space to process emotions, strategies to manage anxiety or guidance to navigate life’s challenges, we will shape our sessions in a way that feels right for you.

A safe, supportive and transformative space

My work is confidential, compassionate and collaborative, sometimes challenging, but always supportive to you. Together, we will get to the heart of what’s holding you back, helping you process past experiences, heal emotional wounds and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Through our work, you’ll develop the tools to manage life’s challenges, rebuild self-belief and create the change you need. You’ll start to feel more in control, strengthening your relationships, improving your mental health and well-being, as well as finding balance in all areas of life. This will happen in a time that's right for you as we work through it all together. Whether it’s work, family, friendships or personal growth, you’ll begin to feel more grounded, connected and empowered to live life in a way that truly feels right for you.

Therapy at a pace that works for you

Therapy should fit into your life in a way that feels right for you. You can choose to have as many or as few sessions as you need, and there is no expectation for long term commitment. My goal is never to keep you in therapy indefinitely but to equip you with the tools, self-awareness and confidence to move forward when the time is right.

Much of the emotional work you do for your mental health happens between sessions. It lives in the way you reflect, process and apply what we explore together.

Whether you prefer weekly, fortnightly or short term therapy (6 to 12 sessions), I will work with you in a way that suits your lifestyle and personal needs.

My therapy fees reflect the expertise, confidence, experience and depth of support I bring to our sessions. My ultimate aim is to empower you to leave therapy feeling stronger, more resilient and in control of your own mental health and well-being, at a time that’s right for you.

I also work with insurance based referrals (e.g. AXA Health,Bupa), offering clinical depth within a trauma informed framework.

If you're using AI for your mental health, good for you, I welcome it

If you're using platforms like ChatGPT or other AI apps or digital tools to support your mental health, you're not alone, and I welcome us working with that in therapy. I see it as a sign of your resourcefulness. Technology can offer helpful insight and structure, although it can't always hold your emotional depth. In your therapy sessions with me, we can gently explore what you're learning online and bring more humanness, emotional nuance and self-compassion into your process, helping you make sense of what resonates and what still needs healing.

Taking the first step

If you are an adult experiencing any emotional challenges, stress or uncertainty, and you’d like to talk to an experienced, compassionate therapist, you’re in the right place.

Many of my clients begin with a 6 session block to build momentum and confidence. We can always review as we go, therapy works best when it’s collaborative and responsive to your needs.

I welcome any questions before getting started, so please feel free to get in touch. Let’s talk about how I can make a start to support you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a UKCP accredited and registered psychotherapist with a Master of Science (MSc) in Contemporary Person Centred Psychotherapy and Applications from Middlesex University. I also have a Bachelors of Science (BSc) Honours degree in Chemistry with Biomedical Sciences (achieved 2.1) from De Montfort University.

Alongside my psychotherapy practice, I work full-time as a senior digital marketing professional, giving me first-hand insight into the pressures of corporate life. This real world managerial experience allows me to support professionals navigating workplace stress, career challenges and leadership struggles. I work confidently in the digital space as I offer online counselling only via MS Teams video call (preferred), WhatsApp video call, FaceTime or telephone counselling. I have been working exclusively online for several years, and my clients consistently find this approach effective, supportive and deeply transformative.

Previously, I worked in the training and education sector as a teacher and coach, where I helped numerous individuals develop skills, confidence and personal growth.

By bringing together strong communication skills, a deep understanding of human behaviour, as well as years of psychotherapy experience, I offer a well-rounded, insightful and supportive approach tailored to your needs.

I genuinely care about your mental health and wellbeing. I'm passionate about helping you become the best version of yourself - empowered, self-aware and in control of your life.

I warmly welcome clients from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Your cultural identity and life experiences shape how you navigate the world, and together, we will explore what these mean for your emotional processing, relationships and sense of self.

Testimonials

Here are some previous client testimonials I have received that may help you to decide whether you would like to work with me.

"Tina has been my therapist for over a year, and her warmth, kindness and non-judgmental approach have been a constant source of support. She accepted me as I was, with all my complexities and struggles. Training to become a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I came to her with a deep thirst for knowledge, but also with the weight of my past trauma and the psychological challenges of working in therapy, encounter groups and supervision. Tina guided me through every step of my journey, treating me with humanity and care, always maintaining a relational approach. She is a compassionate and giving therapist, passionate about helping me not only succeed but also grow on a deeper level. Her strength and courage to challenge my complexities continue to inspire me. As a male client, I never felt that my gender overshadowed our work, instead, she met me where I was, creating a truly special therapeutic connection. I am deeply grateful for how she helped me grow and for being a key reason I completed my training with distinction. Tina was my unwavering guide, steadfast support, and the structure that held me together through every step of my journey and in every possible way. Thank you, Tina, for everything. With love."

"Tina provided a safe, secure therapeutic space online for me to explore myself on a deeper level. She expressed genuine interest in helping me to reclaim my power and become the person I believed I was but lacked the confidence to reveal. She facilitated this process by tailoring suggestions and reflections to support my growth. Tina was able to offer specific cultural insights which made this therapeutic encounter particularly validating and a weight I did not know I was carrying felt like it lifted off my shoulders. Our work helped me to improve my capacity to maintain relationships and resolve conflicts while maintaining my integrity and boundaries. I feel psychologically more robust following this piece of work, am more in touch with my intuition and would highly recommend Tina if you need support with clarifying the intersections of what it is like to be a woman of mixed heritage (Mauritian/Irish) in Westernised society today.”

"Thank you Tina for everything. I had my doubts about whether therapy would work and you proved beyond doubt that it does. You've given me space to think about myself more. My younger self, the lost little boy within me, that I pushed to one side, will always be grateful to you for your support. My adult man and my younger-self boy is fist-pumping you with gratitude."

"“Thank you so much for all of those weeks of your listening and support. It has been a special time for me and I have felt quite different in my outlook on life! I have found talking about the past to be extremely difficult and at times I didn't think it was helpful. I used to get so incredibly upset. You've helped me incredibly with wanting to approach the people who I have been scared to approach, and to talk through their views of me directly. I would not have been able to get this space from any other area of my life and I am really pleased that our paths crossed. I wish you nothing but the best in your future life. You've given me the very best to grow mine.”

"Thank you so much for helping me get through the hardest few months of my life. I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am now without your help so with love and thanks, I wish you all the best for the future. Whoever is lucky enough to have you as their Psychotherapist will most likely find their lives all the better for it. Thank you again so much.”

“I have felt from the very beginning enormous support and understanding. It helped enormously to understand myself and the relationship I was in. I only have truly amazing things to say and I’m extremely thankful to Tina that I was given this chance, it has changed me as a person. It has changed my life to a better, happier and much more hopeful way that I could ever imagine or thought could be possible. THANK YOU.”

“I would like to say THANK YOU!! It’s been over twenty years that I have put up with physical and verbal abuse, never asking for help. My cup was beginning to overflow and I knew I needed help, and what a great help it has been. I would like to thank Tina for all of her support, understanding and empathy. She is very good! Today is my last session – I wouldn’t say I am over it, but I’m getting stronger day by day. From a thankful client.”

Frequently asked questions

What therapy approach does Tina Chummun use?

My practice is grounded in person centred therapy, meaning you are always at the centre of our work, not a diagnosis or a fixed treatment plan. I integrate this with trauma informed practice, neuroscience and neurobiology, and a culturally sensitive framework that honours your identity, heritage and lived experience.

Does Tina Chummun work with South Asian clients?

Yes, and this is one of my core specialisms. I have extensive experience supporting South Asian, Indian, Mauritian, mixed heritage and British Asian clients navigating intergenerational trauma, family dynamics, cultural identity, shame and the psychological impact of living between cultures. I bring both professional expertise and personal cultural understanding to this work.

How much does therapy with Tina Chummun cost?

My fee is £80 per 60 minute session. This reflects my clinical expertise, specialist training and the depth of work I offer. Concessions are available for students, low income clients and trainee counsellors. I also work with insurance providers including AXA Health, BUPA, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, WPA and Saga.

Is online therapy as effective as in person therapy sessions?

Research consistently shows that online therapy is equally effective for most presenting issues, including trauma, anxiety and depression. Many of my clients find online sessions more comfortable, being in a familiar, safe environment often makes it easier to open up about difficult or intimate experiences. I have worked exclusively online for several years and my clients consistently describe the experience as deeply supportive and transformative.

What is trauma informed, person centred therapy?

Trauma informed therapy means that everything we do together takes into account the impact trauma may have had on your nervous system, your sense of self and your relationships, without requiring you to relive painful experiences before you're ready. Person centred therapy means I follow your lead, trust your inner wisdom, and create a space where you are accepted unconditionally, exactly as you are.

Can I use AI tools like ChatGPT alongside therapy with Tina?

Absolutely, I welcome it. Many of my clients use AI tools between sessions to journal, reflect and process. I see this as a sign of resourcefulness and self-awareness. In your therapy sessions, we explore the insights you've gathered and bring emotional depth, nuance and self-compassion to what you're learning.
