About me

Hello, I'm Tess. I am a qualified counsellor offering individual therapy sessions, in person and online. I run a small private practice in Mid Wales.

Most people come to counselling to look at difficulties in their lives, I aim to be there alongside you, to support you through your suffering, creating the space where new understanding and meaning may emerge.

I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental and if needed, a challenging space for you to explore your experience of the world.

Dwi'n credu bod hi'n bwysig mewn therapi i gael yr opsiwn o fynegi eich emosiynau a'ch teimladau yn eich iaith gyntaf, felly dwi'n cynnig sesiynau trwy'r Gymraeg hefyd.

I work in an integrative way, combining understanding and knowledge from Western models of psychotherapy with Buddhist psychology and somatic wisdom.

I have experience in working with grief, loss, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bullying, stress, trauma and relationship issues.

I have been a mindfulness and meditation practitioner for many years and this undoubtedly informs my approach to therapy.

I welcome difference in all its forms into my counselling practice and I hold an anti discriminatory approach.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and I work according to their ethical code.

My initial training was in the Other-Centred approach to psychotherapy, which puts emphasis on mindful engagement with others and the world. I have experience in working for a national bereavement charity as well as with young people (16-25 year olds) in an educational setting.

I have a Foundation Certificate and Diploma in Other Centred Counselling with The Tariki Trust and I'm currently in training working towards an Masters in Mindfulness Based Approaches.

Continued professional development is an essential part of any therapists' practice. I continue to learn and gain insight through training courses, workshops and personal study. Please see my website for more information.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I have access to a wheelchair accessible therapy room.
