About me
Have you been finding motherhood much harder than you expected and felt anxious or low in mood?
Do you find yourself comparing yourself to others and not feeling good enough as a mum?
Maybe you feel like you have lost your sense of identity since becoming a mum and not sure who you are anymore.
You are not alone in these feelings but you don’t need to feel this way. I can help you to understand what is going on for you and provide you with tools to help you feel more happy and confident as a mum.
I can help you understand why certain things might be triggering as you go through this major life transition and offer ways of easing anxiety and getting more rest when sleep is hard to come by. We can also process any trauma from birth or pregnancy.
Sessions are offered in person (in Hitchin) or online if preferred and you are welcome to bring your baby if needed. Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes.
As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of different theories and techniques to support your individual needs, making sure you get the most out of therapy. Working at your pace we will focus on what you want to bring, giving you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in an empathetic, non- judgemental space.
What happens next?
Looking for a therapist takes courage and I understand that trying to find a counsellor who is the right fit can feel daunting and confusing so do get in touch if you have any questions.
I offer a free initial telephone call which you can book online here.
If you have any questions then please send me an email today.
Testimonials
'I am really grateful to Tanya for her help identifying some of the things I was personally (and silently) struggling with during my first year back to work following the birth of my first child. I actually think I’d been struggling before that and thought being back at work would get my feelings back to “normal”. By identifying and normalising some of my thoughts and feelings, I’ve been able to put practical solutions in place to help fend them off'
'Having counselling with Tanya really helped me to focus on my own needs and put boundaries in place with some of my family members. She made me feel really comfortable and enabled me to open up about difficult things from my past which had been burdening me for a long time. I feel able to move on with my life now and be more open about how I am feeling'

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
