About me

General information

I'm a registered member of the BACP and an experienced person centred/integrative therapist. I have experience of working with the following issues: Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Trauma, Childhood Abuse, Rape & Sexual Assualt, Self Development, Self Esteem, Confidence Building, Grief, Relationship issues/breakdowns, Abusive/Narcissistic relationships, Low mood, Black Caribbean cultural issues, Nigerian cultural issues, Psychosis, Anger Management and drug and alcohol issues.

My main area of interest/passion is working in the field of self-love, self esteem and confidence building.

However, I have extensive training in grief counselling due to my work as a grief counsellor, extensive training in Art and Play Therapy with children due to my work as a school counsellor. I also have experience of working in partnership with a social work team, counselling vulnerable adults due to my work within a local city council. Within the project, I emotionally supported parents who we're at risk of having children removed from their care. This often involved working on the subject of domestic abuse and child neglect.

As well as the above, I have lived experience of raising a child with Autism, which helps me to relate to those who are neurodiverse in addition to their care givers.

About person centred counselling

Person centred therapy offers a non directive approach to counselling, focusing on building a supportive and empathic relationship between the client and therapist, in order to facilitate transformation. The Person Centred Approach believes that all human beings have the potential to self actualise and become more fully functioning when equipped with the right conditions.

I use the person centred approach as a core foundation to my therapy sessions but also incorporate other modalities when/if necessary. This allows me to tailor the session to your needs.

Where I'm based

I'm Yorkshire born and bread. I love Leeds so much, I'm still here. The multicultural city, as well as life experience and professional experience, has allowed me to connect and build relationships with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. I love to learn from other cultures as well as embrace my mixed ethnicity and culture as a Caribbean woman; born and raised in England. My counselling office is based in Headingly, LS6.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a person centred counsellor/ integrative therapist, I work together with clients to explore troubling issues and emotional distress in a safe and secure environment. I am able to work with many presenting issues, in a gentle and sensitive manner and at a pace led by the client. I have a range of experience working with survivors of domestic violence, parents that have had their children removed from their care, grief counselling plus more.

My specialty area of counselling work and the field I'm most passionate about is self esteem building, confidence building and everything self love.

I am a strong advocate for women's rights due to my personal and professional experience, especially regarding domestic violence. I am also experienced with working with primary school children; using art and play therapy as a tool within the session, helping children to process their issues and realities. Due to my professional experience and the fact I am a mother of two, I am also a strong believer in children's rights and love to empower children to find and use their voice, because their voice matters, and they have a right to be heard.

I'm also a registered member of the BACP and work in line with the BACP'S ethical standards.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
