About me

General information

I'm an experienced therapist that works from a person centred/ integrative approach. The core of my sessions are person centered in the sense that the sessions are tailored to you and are built around us building a safe, non judgemental, empathetic, trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship, which is led completely at your pace. Empathy and safety is at the heart of the work I do.

Within the sessions I aim to facilitate transformation, exploration and self discovery and empower you to find solutions that are fitting for you. I also recognise that some people don't want a solution, they just want to be heard, seen and validated. In my sessions I create the space for that also.

I've been trained in different counselling approaches, so I'm able to tailor the sessions accordingly to your needs whether it be focusing on trauma, sense of self or exploring your depression/anxiety. I can tap into different areas of knowledge and bring them into the session. This can include mindfulness, CBT, mindset work, psychoeducation, solution focused techniques and more.

With my post graduate diploma in psychology, mental health and wellbeing, I'm able to draw upon recent research, psychological theories and other varying factors that contribute to mental health, helping us to achieve the more in depth and powerful work.

I have had my own experiences with mental health issues, trauma, ACE's and the curve balls that life throws at us, so I'm able to draw upon my own experience to aid us in the session.

I'm a registered member of the BACP (MBACP). I have experience of working with a broad range of issues such as: Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Trauma, Childhood Abuse, Rape & Sexual Assualt, Self Development, Self Esteem, Confidence Building, Grief, Relationship issues/breakdowns, Abusive/Narcissistic relationships, Low mood, Cultural issues, Family conflict, Dysfunctional Family Dynamics, Work related issues, Bullying, Domestic violence, Abusive relationships including emotional abause, Dealing with chronic pain, Racism, Sexism, Psychosis, Anger Management and drug and alcohol issues.

My main area of interest is working in the field of self-worth, self esteem, confidence building, and social anxiety as I'm really passionate about self development, especially with my lived experience of trauma and ACE's and my ability to find ways to heal and recover.

I have extensive training in grief counselling due to my work as a grief counsellor, and extensive training in Art and Play Therapy with children/young people due to my work as a school counsellor. I also have experience of working in partnership with a social work team, counselling vulnerable adults due to my work within a local city council. Within the project, I emotionally supported parents who were at risk of having children removed from their care. This often involved working on the subject of domestic abuse and child neglect.

As well as the above, I have lived experience of raising children with Autism, which helps me to relate to those who are neurodivergent in addition to their care givers.

I'm trauma informed and when working with Trauma I use a narrative approach to explore Trauma, with a trauma sensitive approach. This is especially useful for those that want to talk about the events of their Trauma in safe and structured way.

I work with Adults as well as children/young people.

I work with a wide range of people, from different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and sexualities. I'm a proud supporter of the LGBTQ community and with me being from the black carribean community, I'm able to work with the identity issues, cultural issues and racism that this often presents.

Where I'm based

I'm based in the centre of Headingley in Leeds.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a person centred counsellor/ integrative therapist, I work together with clients to explore troubling issues and emotional distress in a safe and secure environment. I am able to work with many presenting issues, in a gentle and sensitive manner and at a pace led by the client. I have a range of experience working with survivors of domestic violence, parents that have had their children removed from their care, grief counselling plus more.

My specialty area of counselling work and the field I'm most passionate about is self esteem building, confidence building and everything self love.

I am a strong advocate for women's rights due to my personal and professional experience, especially regarding domestic violence. I am also experienced with working with school children; using art and play therapy as a tool within the session, helping children to process their issues and realities. Due to my professional experience and the fact I am a mother of two, I am also a strong believer in children's rights and love to empower children to find and use their voice, because their voice matters, and they have a right to be heard.

I'm MBACP registered and work in line with the BACP'S ethical standards.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
