About me

I am an independent qualified person-centred counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

The foundations of my work lay in the belief that we all have the potential resources for inner growth, and the capacity to lead a meaningful life. My focus will be to encourage you to find the answers that lie within you. This may involve reflection and gentle challenging which can help you to view your feelings, behaviours and patterns of thinking more clearly which in turn may encourage positive change.

My therapy sessions provide a safe place to talk to someone in confidence who listens without judgement, which may help you make sense of things and understand yourself better. My sessions can help you release tension and potentially resolve complicated feelings, or find ways to live with them.

As a wife, mother, business owner, friend, sister, daughter and fellow human being, I aim to tap into all my experiences to help me empathise and understand my clients and walk with them on their journey of self-discovery.

The core of my work is person-centred and I believe we all have within us the capability and internal resources for inner growth. Therapy can help people understand themselves better and through this understanding comes greater self-acceptance, self-care and self-belief.

I’m interested in many aspects of therapy and am committed to continuing my professional and personal development through ongoing training and lifelong learning. I receive regular supervision to support my work and safeguard both me and my clients.

Some of the areas in which I can support are:

  • reduce anxiety and improve low mood
  • cope with depression
  • bereavement or other loss
  • improve self-esteem and a sense of self-worth
  • explore transitional stages of life, including motherhood, the menopause and retirement
  • find direction, purpose and meaning

Having worked within a fast-paced corporate environment I understand the pressures of the workplace and can potentially help with work related issues

I work in a warm, empathetic, accepting manner. I enjoy working from a person-centred approach where the sessions are client-led and we work with what the client chooses to bring to the session. I offer no-judgement and welcome clients to share whatever is creating pain for them – no matter how dark the thoughts and feelings may be. Whilst my core therapeutic approach is person-centred my training and ongoing life learning helps me integrate other approaches where it feels helpful – such as goal-orientated coaching, symptom support (whilst we work on the underlying causes) mindfulness, self-care and mind-body work. I will adapt my therapy to the unique needs of my clients.

I have a therapy room based in central Sale (South Manchester) where I can offer face to face therapy in a confidential, warm, welcoming space which may help take you away from your daily environment which can help unlock pent up emotions, worries and fears. Regular face to face sessions can encourage you to let go of fears, anxieties and stress allowing space for positive changes to take place.

Alternatively, I am also able to offer remote/online sessions if this is a preferred option. I offer an initial free of charge telephone consultation which will allow you to establish whether you feel comfortable with me and the way I work. Equally, this allows me to gain an understanding of what you are looking for out of therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified person centred counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work to their ethical framework  www.bacp.co.uk. I have undertaken and passed the BACP Certificate of Proficiency assessment which is an assessment of the standardised skills, knowledge and abilities required to be a professional counsellor or psychotherapist.

As part of my three year studies at Manchester College, I was required to work as a voluntary counsellor. I chose to work with Trafford Carers who are an independent registered Charity supporting unpaid carers looking after someone who lives within the Trafford area. My role was to provide counselling support allowing an opportunity for the exploration of feelings, thoughts in a safe, confidential, non judgemental space. Whilst working for Trafford Carers I was asked to support a weekly bereavement group run by The Counselling and Family Centre - www.thecfc.org.uk

I also worked with BlueSci - www.blueci.org.uk who are a mental health and wellbeing organisation based in Trafford providing counselling to clients who presented with emotional or psychological distress, isolation and loneliness. I have also worked with Trafford Talkshop providing a voluntary confidential counselling service to young people between the ages of 11 to 19. I continue to work on an adhoc basis with all the aforementioned organisations (time permitting).

Since qualifying I have been running my own private practice offering counselling to clients both face to face and online. Before starting my own practice, I enjoyed a long, successful career within recruitment working for Reed Employment as part of their senior management team and before my studies successfully worked as an independent recruitment consultant - please see my LinkedIn profile for further information - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/sarah-grindrod-624b1a26

I am interested in many aspects of therapy and am committed to continuing my professional and personal development through ongoing training and lifelong learning. I am currently undertaking an online Menopause Coaching Course - www.sallygarozzo.com and have just enrolled on a Level 3 End of Life Diploma certified through the Centre of Excellence - https://www.centreofexcellence.com.

I receive regular supervision (as per the BACP ethical framework) to support my work which safeguards both myself and my clients. I am DBS cleared, insured and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. I am able to provide references, certificates if required.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Process and Commitments

I usually recommend new clients to commit to weekly counselling sessions but know that this can be challenging for some clients – financially and with time pressures so am happy to be flexible in my approach. I am able to provide sessions on an evening and weekends (the latter with prior notice and dependent upon availability. I agree on a simple contract with all my clients, including aspects such as confidentiality, reliability, time keeping, cancelation and ending sessions (I am happy to send a copy across should wish to view). I ask all my clients to read through the contract and let me know if they are happy with the agreement.
