About me

I am a qualified, BACP registered counsellor. I offer in person counselling in central York, as well as online.

My aim is to listen, support and empower you in a relational, holistic way, where together, we can explore your unique experiences at a deeper level.

What to expect from me

It takes courage to reach out and seek counselling and that is why we will work at your pace, and I will offer you a warm, calm, accepting, honest and respectful space that can help cultivate change.

As a humanistic counsellor, my training and experience allows me to work integratively, which means I am able to offer a range of therapeutic techniques to best support your individual experience.

I believe our therapeutic relationship is a key part of our work together and that is why I work relationally. This means our work is collaborative. By working together, we can begin to explore your personal experience.

Working together

It’s really important to find the right counsellor for you. That’s why I offer an initial, free, no obligation phone conversation. Lasting around 20 minutes, it’s a great opportunity for you to tell me a bit about you, what’s bringing you to counselling, and for you to ask any questions.

If you decide you want to start your counselling journey with me, we will arrange our first session. Before our first session, we will go through all the necessary paperwork. This means the focus of our first session will be on what has brought you to counselling, what you’d like to explore over the course of our time together and for us to begin getting to know each other.

What I offer

I offer both long and short term counselling, therefore we can discuss and agree what approach would be most suitable for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (PGDip) from York St John University.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
