About me

About Me

I am don't know your story or what brings you here, to this moment, to seek relationship therapy but welcome! I DO know it can be scary, painful, shaming and difficult to reach out for support. Your relationship can feel like the end of the road or an ongoing STALE frustration!

I am a relationship therapist because I know, both as client and therapist, that IMAGO therapy works! Sometimes having a third party guide your communication  can be really helpful.

I am a warm, kind and open person, who will help you both to work with whatever you bring. I offer a confidential, safe space, where I will meet you both, just as you are, without judgement. I offer you commitment, compassion and sometimes challenge. I will help you to communicate more accurately and support you both to make the changes you want to see.

Relationship Therapy

I work with any configuration of close relationship to help improve communication, understanding and closeness. This means I will work with romantically involved  couples, adult parents and children, siblings or friends. I have a face to face practice in a comfortable large room in North Headingley with good road and bus access and good parking. I also work online using Zoom, in which case you can be anywhere!!

Why seek Couples Counselling?

If you are feeling your relationship has got stale, wondering if you’ve fallen out of love, then you are like many couples!! You might be finding communication a struggle and a source of conflict. Maybe one or both of you had painful or difficult experiences in your past that keep showing up in your relationship now. Or you might feel you have a good relationship but want to invest in making a deeper connection? Perhaps you considering splitting up but wondering if there is something left to try? Has one of you had an affair and you’re wondering if the relationship can survive? I believe relationships CAN recover and I CAN HELP YOU.

As a Relationship Therapist, I offer a model of communication that can help set your relationship back on course. I believe that relationships can go beyond struggle, pain, boredom or conflict and be restored to a place of love, growth and joy. For this to happen, there needs to be SAFETY and CONNECTION. I will work with you to create, or re-establish both.

How do I work?

IMAGO Relationship Therapy is the model  of therapy I use with couples. The key to IMAGO therapy is the use of the Dialogue process. This is a method for clear, respectful, safe communication. I teach the IMAGO Dialogue with all my couples. It is a structured way to talk that will help you both LISTEN and SPEAK. You will learn ways to speak so the other person CAN actually hear!! This helps to speak about conflict and points of difference, without feeling attacked. The IMAGO Dialogue process is a powerful way to get reconnected, finding what unites, rather than divides you.

Through this process I will guide you to a SAFER way to communicate, that focuses on bringing positivity back into your communication and ultimately restoring connection and love. After all, who wants to talk or engage with a partner if you just get yelled at, ignored or disrespected??! The IMAGO process helps put negativity aside, even when dialoguing about conflict and pain and instead take responsibility to be the best partner you can be. TOGETHER the three of us will create a space that is safe and non-defensive. You will each learn how to say what you mean, ask for what you needs and want AND experiment with stretching TOWARDS the other. You will be able to create a shared vision for your  relationship.

What will I be doing as your Therapist?

My job is to offer you both a containing space for you to explore your issues safely. I will help you to stay in Dialogue with each other. I will be guiding you to use language safely, helping you each reframe if needed. I will teach you key skills and help direct the process. I will  share my knowledge of the Relationship Theory if it is useful to you. I will spend less time talking directly to each of you and more time supporting you to talk to each other.

If you come to work with me, we will become a team, working together for the HEALTH and GROWTH of your RELATIONSHIP.

If you think its time to invest in your relationship and your life together, then call me and we can explore where and when to BEGIN!

Training, qualifications & experience

I have 8 years of experience as a therapist. I work with a variety of adult clients, including the elderly; those living with life-limiting illness; those seeking to recover from trauma; overcome anxiety and depression; managing life transitions, loss or dealing with relational or family conflict.

I have completed four years of training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and hold a Post Graduate Diploma in TA Practice. I am continuing on to become a Certified Transactional Analyst and Psychotherapist registered with UKCP.  I am presently a registered member of UKATA, the UK Association of Transactional Analysts and BACP, the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I also have a BA Hons in Theology and Education and am a qualified secondary school teacher. I am also a trainee member of IMAGO UK.

I have completed several trainings in various aspects of Couples Work. Together with my training in Transactional Analysis, this means I will bring considerable experience of working with people's internal and relationship processes and patterns of behaviour, to our work together. My work in group settings means I am used to facilitating dialogue and supporting difficult conversations. As a trainees IMAGO therapist, I seek to use all these skills to support our work in the Couples Therapy Room with the IMAGO dialogue. I am in process to complete full IMAGO certification later this year.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you build the relationship you both want.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

As a trained teacher, I am well versed in the stresses and strains of working within the Education System. As such, I am well placed to offer empathic understanding, to both Educational Professionals and young people, experiencing anxiety or high levels of stress. I can offer short therapy to support you in adopting an attitude of self care and developing strategies to manage school life. I have worked for the last 3 years running groups, both face to face and online, for young people aged 13 -18. I have supported teenagers suffering from various forms of anxiety, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, body image and isolation. I am looking to run a new online closed group for young people in Leeds.

Please email me if you, or another young person you know, would benefit from the safety and connection of belonging to a group that offers support, space to share their story, and strategies for navigating the complexities of teenage life.
