About me

Welcome to Gateway Counselling.

My name is Rosamond and I am available to offer counselling within a secure environment in order to explore whatever is happening in your life. Here at Gateway we understand that there are times in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, at a loss and without hope concerning our past, our present and even our future. As Steve Jobs said “sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick”.

As an experienced counsellor I am able to provide a safe and confidential environment in which to talk, explore and process the issues and challenges for which you are seeking help. Part of the counselling process will also include equipping you with therapeutic tools. These will enable you to move forward with your life in a positive and fulfilling way.

For those who have never experienced counselling before it can be quite a daunting thought to make the first step of contacting a counsellor for help. I would like to reassure you that an initial conversation will take place where your needs and concerns can be discussed and it would be only after this that an agreement to make the first appointment would be made.

Training, qualifications & experience

My original introduction to the world of counselling began with training to become a FOCCUS Facilitator. FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication Understanding and Study) is a programme for couples as they prepare for marriage. I currently hold a certificate and continue to work in this capacity.

My counselling qualifications include:
* COSCA Diploma in Counselling from Vital Connexions
* COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills
* University of Glasgow Certificate in Counselling Skills
Currently I have been accepted to study an MCc in Couple Counselling and hope to commence this in September 2016
All of my counselling training courses are accredited by COSCA (the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland).
I am a counsellor member of COSCA and adhere to their Code of Ethics as well as fulfilling their requirements of regular CPD and professional supervision.
I am a counsellor on COSCA’s Register that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. This is recognition of my commitment to high standards.

My qualifications are in Integrative Counselling meaning that I use an approach where specific therapies such as Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are used as well as Mindfulness and Relaxation techniques. This genre of counselling enables me to move freely between various types of therapy thus adapting and bringing together relevant elements according to the individual needs and requirements of my clients.

Key to my role as a counsellor is the therapeutic relationship between myself and my client. The building of a trusting relationship within the counselling session is essential. It involves my use of ‘Core Conditions’ namely empathy, non-judgemental and congruence (or being genuine). This, along with the assurance of confidentiality makes a safe environment in which both the client and myself can work together.

I work with clients both on a direct basis, and also by referral from individuals, HR consultancies and corporate HR departments.

I have a broad range of experience working with both men and women presenting with issues such as those marked. This is not a comprehensive list and I am available to discuss your specific needs more fully as part of an initial phone conversation.

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
