About me

I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor specialising in women's mental health. I work with any type of difficulty you might be experiencing but have two aspects that I particularly specialise in:

Maternal/Perinatal mental health - Distress, stress, anxiety, depression, birth trauma, difficulties in conception or IVF, or the loss of a baby either through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. I also help couples with infertility.

Transition into Motherhood - Often referred to as Matrescence, simply put this covers the physical, emotional, hormonal and social transition to becoming a mother.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and experienced Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, registered with the BACP and my work is framed by their ethical and professional codes.

I have undertaken additional training within specialist areas such as bereavement, eating disorders and maternal mental health.

I work regularly with an accredited supervisor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Matrescence - The physical, emotional, hormonal and social transition to becoming a mother.

Similar to adolescence, Matrescence is a transitionary time when your body, the way that society sees you, and the way that you see yourself are all changing.

Unlike adolescence, Matrescence requires you to cope with all these changes whilst also learning how to cope with a tiny baby to take care of, whilst feeling an expectation to be happy all the time.

It’s often said that when a baby is born, a mother is too, but it’s more complicated than that. Matrescence isn’t just about becoming a person who takes care of a baby. Instead, it’s every mother’s journey to a place where her identity as an individual and her identity as a mama are reconciled.
