About me

I am a fully qualified and registered relationship counsellor. I offer both short-term and open-ended counselling to couples and individuals. I work both online and face-to-face. In person sessions are held in Dunbar (during school hours).

FOR COUPLES:

Are you in a relationship but feel that something isn’t quite right?

Perhaps you argue a lot or don't really communicate anymore. You may be together but still feel alone and wonder if this is how it's going to be. Maybe you would like to feel heard, appreciated and loved again but don't know where to start.

Or maybe you are trying to deal with a change, like having a baby, retiring, or moving to a new place, and that has created stress and tension in your relationship and you would like to stop the negative cycle.

Or perhaps you feel you are at a crossroads and would like support in exploring your options and having those difficult conversations with one another.

Counselling in the presence of an impartial and non-judgemental therapist can make it easier for you to explore your relationship, or some aspect of it, in a safe, honest and respectful manner.

Couples counselling is also for you if you just want to have a quiet, confidential and focussed space to better connect with your partner.

SOME of the issues I have worked with:

  • Communication problems
  • Lack of intimacy
  • Affairs
  • Bereavement
  • Life transitions
  • Separation and divorce
  • Different plans/hopes for the future
  • Conflict with extended family
  • Different parenting styles

FOR INDIVIDUALS:

Relationship counselling is also suitable for individuals - whether or not you are in a relationship. You may want to:

  • Explore challenges in your current relationship
  • Look at how your past relationships are impacting on your life now
  • Work through a loss or an ending
  • Reflect on your relationship with yourself and explore what an authentic and meaningful life might look like for you

Relationships don’t only refer to intimate romantic relationships either but you may want to reflect on and talk about your relationship with friends, parents or siblings, colleagues, or a wider group of people.

ABOUT ME AND MY PRACTICE:

I am a kind, genuine, and down-to-earth person, a 'chatty introvert' who likes quiet reflection and meaningful conversations in equal measure.

I work with people from all walks of life and my counselling style is open and relaxed. I believe in working collaboratively with my clients and value the therapeutic relationship we create together. I am always happy to get your feedback on our work together.

In my practice, I draw on insights from various modalities, especially Person-Centred, Systemic, Psychodynamic, and Narrative therapies. I take a socioculturally attuned approach to therapy as I don't believe that people and relationships exist in a vacuum.

NEXT STEP:

The best way to reach me is via email. After receiving your email I will do my best to offer you a prompt first session. I also offer a short, free introductory zoom call for anyone who would like to have a chat first. The call takes around 20 minutes and there is no obligation for you to commit to further sessions if you don’t want to. I also offer a 50 min preliminary F2F session for £30 for those who would prefer to work in person and don't want an introductory zoom call.

If you don't hear back from me within 48 hours please check your spam folder.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Relationship Counselling - Relationships Scotland (COSCA validated)

I have also undertaken specialist training in bereavement counselling and continue to work as a volunteer bereavement counsellor with Cruse Scotland.

I regularly attend continuous professional development training. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and I abide by their ethical framework.

In addition to my counsellor training, my approach has been influenced by my long standing interest in issues around power, justice and equality (and ethics more generally) - the focus of my educational and work history prior to counselling.
