About me

Greetings, this is Paul. With a background in supporting individuals through challenging times, I work as an Integrative Counsellor, offering support to those who struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and difficulty controlling their emotions. My goal is to help these individuals feel more at ease, connected to others, and confident in themselves.

In the space between stimulus and response lies the opportunity for change. A movement away from struggle, pain, and suffering. An opportunity to let go, find peace, understanding, acceptance, new perspectives, and relinquish narratives that once served us well but now bear little relationship to our authentic selves.

The bulk of my approach focuses on the here and now. Also recognising the impact of our lived experience. As a result, I tailor my approach to fit your specific needs and goals. In doing so I draw upon mindfulness-based concepts as well as providing a means of exploring past experiences. This is done within a safe and person-centred environment.

I place a great deal of emphasis on building a strong therapeutic relationship. Based on trust, respect, and openness in a conversational style. I believe that we all have an innate drive towards self-growth and that we possess the capacity to find our own solutions given the right conditions.

Where we experience a deeper felt shift in our being is the source of lasting change. For this reason, my work with you will always have an element of focusing on what is felt and experienced in the present moment. I find this to be a useful tool for both getting in touch with parts of ourselves that often go unattended to, and also provides a means of exploring things that are brought to the surface for you during each session.

As a BACP registered member I practice in accordance with their ethical framework which outlines principles and values for ethical practice in counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m an integrative counsellor and registered member of the BACP. I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling which draws upon approaches from both person-centred and psychodynamic modalities.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
