About me

Hello & welcome. I'm Oriana, a qualified Gestalt Psychotherapeutic Counsellor offering in-person and online therapy sessions in South London. I believe that therapy can be a journey of discovery of your own unique way of being in the world.

I understand that starting therapy may feel like taking a leap into the unknown and look forward to welcoming you in a safe and confidential space, where you can feel supported and heard.

Together, we will gain a deeper understanding of the issues you are struggling with, and we will work towards your goals. I will help you identify unhelpful patterns and develop new resources and behaviours.

My approach

In my work, I adopt a Gestalt approach. This is grounded in a holistic view of the human being as a whole of mind, body and environment, and enables me to include a sensitivity to embodied, social and cultural aspects into my practice.

I will focus on expanding your awareness, as I am convinced this is key to living more fully and to making the changes you wish to make.

Depending on your interests, you will have the opportunity to use creative methods of exploration of the themes that you wish to bring into therapy, from the use of imagery to attending to body movements and sensations.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training

I am fully qualified and hold a Clinical Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

My experience includes offering counselling and psychotherapy both privately and within an NHS setting and working both on an open-ended and short-term basis.

Alongside my work as a therapist, I lead a team of counsellors within an NHS IAPT service.

To offer you the best possible service, I invest in my continuous professional development – I am currently working towards an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute, London.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy), and of the UKAGP (UK Association for Gestalt Practitioners).

I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, to the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice and to Metanoia Institute’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.

My background

I have a background in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a long-term interest in how socio-cultural factors play a role in a person's life. In particular, I have examined processes of personal and collective creation of meaning.

This now emerges in my therapeutic work – I can offer you a space to identify or re-examine your own sources of meaning and value. I have a personal lived experience of diversity dynamics, with their potential for both disruption and growth.

As a long-term mindfulness meditation practitioner, I naturally integrate a non-judgemental and open observation of what is happening in the here-and-now into my therapeutic practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
