About me

Asking for help when things feel overwhelming, or when life becomes difficult, is a brave first step. I remember from my own experience as a client just how daunting this can feel, but I also remember the relief of finding someone to talk to who was interested in understanding me.

I offer a safe, supportive and confidential space in Northampton where you can explore the issues that you’re struggling with, make sense of where they might have come from, and begin to find different ways of dealing with them. I work both short and long term, depending on what it is that you want to explore. Some people come with specific goals or things that they want to work on, while others have a more general sense that something isn’t ‘quite right’, without being able to work out, on their own, what that is. For some people, expressing feelings is difficult, while others struggle with distressing thoughts. Sometimes people tell me they put off talking to someone because they feel bad about feeling bad, or experience feelings of guilt or shame as they think “I should be able to sort this out by myself…”  But the reality is that we all experience distressing events, difficult feelings or relationship issues at some point in our lives that we’re not able to resolve ourselves, it’s just part of being human, and at those times, a little support can go a long way.

Every year, one in four people suffer with some kind of mental health issue.

Whatever you are experiencing, you don’t have to face it alone. In reading this website and looking for support, you have already taken a positive first step on your journey towards feeling better. However bad things are, it’s never too late. Talking therapies can help. My role is to work with you and alongside you, collaboratively, to help you understand your feelings, your thoughts and yourself better, to see what is holding you back, and to move towards making positive changes in your life. If you’d like any more information, then please phone or email me for an informal, no obligation chat to help you decide whether you would like to take that first step and make an initial appointment.

Based in Northampton, my practice is easy to get to, with adjacent parking and convenient transport links.

Which issues do I work with?

Below are some of the issues that clients often bring to therapy. If what you want to talk about is not on the list please give me a call and we can discuss your individual situation and whether I can help. Even if it is not an issue that I work with, I will do my best to point you in the right direction to find more information, resources or someone else who can help.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Nimisha is a BACP registered independent therapist with a special interest in women’s mental health. She has worked with a broad spectrum of people over the last 25 years both privately and for the public sector including the NHS and higher education. She has also volunteered at Rape Crisis and a Women’s Centre and retains a strong interest in women’s issues. Working in corporate and legal environments has also given her a unique insight into the demands corporate life places on people, both in terms of their physical and mental wellbeing. Nimisha’s experience has enabled her to help people deal with situations where they feel hopeless or out of their depth. She especially enjoys building close relationships with people by working with them intensively on a one to one basis to enabling them to find their own solutions to problems they had previously thought insurmountable.

“As a psychotherapist, I believe that therapy works because of the relationship between the therapist and the individual. I can provide a warm, non-judgmental and trusting environment in which you can be heard and explore those feelings which you may be struggling with and to find ways forward for acceptance and change.”

In her spare time, Nimisha loves doing yoga and scuba diving and views both of these activities as a form of mindfulness. Having come to motherhood later in life, she also loves spending time with her young son.
