About me

Calm Seas Counselling
Nancy Burge
Person centred counsellor MBACP

Do you need to talk to someone experienced in bereavement and loss who will value and not judge you, and who will listen and not tell you what to do?

Then look no further.

I am an experienced counsellor focusing on loss, bereavement and life transitions. I am based in  Bexhill  and offer sessions in person, on the phone or by video call.

I provide person centred counselling to adults of all ages, giving time and space for clients to explore their feelings and better understand what may be going on for them. Often clients can experience a ‘shift’ when given the chance to express their emotions within a supportive therapeutic environment.

I completed my training in 2019 and have worked with people addicted to alcohol and drugs, women survivors of domestic abuse, and more recently have focused on bereavement counselling within a hospice setting. I also have many years’ experience working with young people in care and care leavers in Children’s Services.

In my personal life, I experienced a big transition a year ago when I moved to this area from Essex and so have first-hand experience of the anxiety that can come with life events and changes, giving me insight and empathy towards  others contemplating change.  I am also a person with Multiple Sclerosis and so have experience of what it can feel like living with the kind of constant change that can sometimes leave us feeling powerless.

I came to counselling quite late in life and therefore feel I have a lot of experience behind me which helps me understand and relate to others.

Sadly, there’s never a magic wand in life that can make everything better again. But however hard things seem, there is usually a way to sit with life’s issues in a more comfortable way – we can find this way together in our sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
