About me

Hello and welcome.

My name is Miriam and I would very much like to be a part of your journey to feeling better in yourself and in your surroundings.

Sometimes we may not fully understand what we need from counselling, just that we feel that a change is needed; reading this page is, perhaps, the first step in finding the direction in which you wish to go.

However, I am very aware that searching for the right counsellor can sometimes be a daunting prospect. I therefore hope that the information I have provided here goes some way to ease that process. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me: I am always happy to talk informally about any issues before becoming more formally engaged as your counsellor: it is important in order to ensure that we are the right match for each other before any therapy begins.

As an experienced practitioner with several years’ experience of working with both adults and young people in various contexts, I am able to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where we can work productively and collaboratively to improve your well-being. My aim is to work alongside you at your pace exploring which ever issues or concerns you choose to bring to our sessions. Whatever the issue that you bring to our sessions, we will work together to explore them and the effects they are having on your day-to day life.

Working with me will provide you with a non-judgemental, safe space where you can be heard; a space where you can work through whatever you may be finding difficult or explore issues in order to find new perspective. You will develop the tools to enable you to consider your choices and the direction in which you would like to go, finding what is right for you and bringing change, discovery, and insight into your life. Counselling can also be a place of self-discovery, a place to deepen one’s self-awareness, somewhere to test out different thoughts and feelings without the fear of judgement.

During our first session we will explore what has brought you to counselling: we will consider what is going well, your expectations of the process and the areas on which you wish to focus our work.

I have a broad range of experience working with issues and concerns such as bereavement, depression, anxiety, addiction, major life transitions, low self-esteem, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, gender identity and easing stress related.

In addition to my private practice, I also lecture in Counselling at degree level.  I also provide clinical supervision for fellow counsellors and student counsellors, itself a valuable learning experience which positively impacts my own practice.

I hope I have provided enough information to help with your decision, if not, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss matters more fully before any formal engagement.

I look forward to hearing from you and look forward to playing a part in your journey towards a happier and more fulfilled life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
