About me

Hello. I’m a person-centred counsellor working in-person and remotely. Please read the introduction below to see if my approach appeals to you and drop me a line if you have any questions.

Are you?

  • Struggling in relationships with loved ones?
  • Finding it difficult to get over a loss, such as a bereavement?
  • Swamped by the never-ending demands placed on you to “fit in”?
  • Anxious about your future?
  • Alone and finding it hard to reach out?
  • Wanting to make the best of your life, but don’t know how?

When life’s challenges threaten to overwhelm us, it can feel as if we are being forced to stand up  straight in a tiny rowboat in the middle of a vast stormy ocean. How do we find a way to not capsize?

Talking to family and friends can help. They will want us to be happy, of course, but how will they judge what we tell them? And do we want to be seen as a burden?

How person-centred counselling can help you

As the name suggests, person-centred counselling is all about you, your needs and desires. My aim is to provide a secure, non-judgemental space for you to explore and express - without fear - your feelings and thoughts as you make your way towards healing.

Person-centred counselling offers no gimmicks, no magical cures; just the core nurturing conditions of empathy, authenticity and acceptance:

  • Empathy, where you feel heard and understood;
  • Authenticity, where I am not playing at being “the expert”, but am real and genuine;
  • Acceptance, where you are never judged, diagnosed or pigeon-holed.

Person-centred counselling helped me greatly. I hope it can help you, too.

How we work

We meet for fifty minutes, usually weekly, in a therapy space where I hope you will comfortable and safe. What we speak about in those sessions is led by you, your feelings and thoughts.

I am located between Newcastle-under-Lyme and Market Drayton, easily accessible by car. Alternatively, we can meet online or over the phone.

I also offer a free, no obligation 30-minute session so we can learn about each other and how we might be able to work together.

For more information, please visit my website. Of course, if you have any questions please drop me a line and I will get back to you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at qualified at Keele University and hold a Master's (Distinction) in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means that I agree to adhere to their ethical framework, I attend professional supervision on a monthly basis, hold indemnity insurance, have a clear and enhanced DBS, and regularly attend appropriate professional training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
