About me

I am a person centred children’s counsellor with over 18 years experience of working with local children and families. I fully understand how difficult it is being a parent/carer to children and adolescents.  Often, we as parents try our very best, but sometimes we do need to reach out and ask for help. This is the first step of that journey by reading this and thinking about some family support.

I understand that it is sometimes very hard,  the thought of talking to a stranger about your feelings, but I work in a calm environment in a private garden room which is relaxing and safe. I always work face-to-face with children and walk alongside the client, so they can make their own decisions with the aim to make them feel more confident. I use props and artwork to help the child to express themselves in a creative way.

Alongside working one-to-one with children I offer systemic family therapy, this can help those in close relationships to better understand and support each other. It enables family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on family, strengths, and work together to make useful changes in their relationship and their lives. Research shows family therapy is useful for children, young people, adults and older adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties and interpersonal issues and circumstances, across the family life cycle. I am happy to work online with parents/carers or face to face.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 18 years experience of working in local schools as a Children’s Counsellor. During this period I have worked to help many individual children and families. I continue to work in schools and provide private counselling sessions at my home in Ulverston.

I am fully insured, member of the British Association of counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and DBS checked.

I have off road parking and accessible private garden room away from the main house. Each session is one hour.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
