About me

I specialise in working with adults and young people living with the effects of the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, rape, and sexual assault. You may be living with overwhelming anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks, self-harm, addictions, and suicidal thoughts. Sometimes you might feel as though you don't know who you are or that you have no worth. I can also work with you if you've experienced other types of traumas or if you're feeling paralysed or overwhelmed by your emotions or having difficulty coping with everyday life and you don't know the reason why and you don't know how to make a change.

The psychotherapy I offer is Emotion-Focused. Working with the emotions arising from trauma can help you to start making sense of the effect that it is having on your life. As well as talking about how you've been affected emotionally I can work with you on strategies that can help to minimise the anxiety of dealing with life whilst feeling overwhelmed.

If you've reached the point where you've had enough and you can't cope with how you're feeling, whatever the reason, contact me and we can work together for you to start to make a change.

I also offer an innovative treatment for the symptoms of PTSD, The Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories Protocol.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have the following qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Practice: Emotion-Focused Therapy, University of Wales, Trinity St. David.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling, University of Wales, Newport.
  • BA (Hons) Theatre Studies, Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.

Training and experience:

I've been trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy at the University of Wales.

I've been trained and am qualified to work with PTSD symptoms using The Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories Protocol.

At present, alongside working in private practice, I also work as a trauma therapist for The Wallich, a homelessness charity, as part of their Reflections Network project.

I've been trained by New Pathways to provide therapy to survivors of childhood sexual abuse, rape, and sexual assault, and was on placement with them as a trainee therapist. Since qualifying as a psychotherapist I've worked for New Pathways on a sessional basis.

As a trainee therapist, I was on placement working with clients at Mind, the mental health charity.

I've been trained by Cruse Bereavement Support and previously worked for them as a volunteer bereavement counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
