About me
Welcome to you.
I'm Madeleine, a warm, experienced professional counsellor living and working in Heworth, York.
If you are looking for counselling sessions then life is probably feeling hard at the moment. Your relationships with other people may feel stressful; your work or studies may not be going well or perhaps you are dealing with a difficult experience or situation. You may be feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed or stuck.
I know it is not always easy to talk to family and friends. You may not want to worry them, they are part of the problem or you don’t feel that they will really understand.
I have extensive experience working with younger adults (18-40s) and have a good understanding of many of the difficulties you may be facing right now. I can offer you a confidential space to talk about what is going on and help you start to get back on track.
Counselling gives you a dedicated space to focus on whatever is causing you concern. Talking about difficult feelings and experiences with a person who is really interested in you can:
- Help you to understand yourself better.
- Clarify what you need.
- Improve your self esteem.
Which will help you to manage the issues you are facing.
Can I choose how many sessions I have?
Yes, is your choice. You may be looking for a couple of sessions to talk through a specific problem or you may want longer term support. I see most clients for between 6 and 20 sessions. Sessions can be at a set time weekly or fortnightly or you can book sessions as and when you want them.
What happens in the sessions?
In your first counselling session, I will ask you what has brought you to counselling now and what is feeling difficult at the moment. I will also be interested to know what you would like to get from your sessions. You may have specific goals or you may want to start with how you are feeling and go from there.
What kind of counselling do you offer?
I offer person centred counselling. Person centred counselling values the uniqueness of your experience. This therapeutic approach focuses on creating a supportive environment which enables you to fully explore whatever you feel needs attention.

I warmly welcome any questions you might have, so please ask.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
