About me

I am a Chartered Health Psychologist, which means I am an Applied Psychologist and Practitioner Psychologist, with specialist training in health-related problems. I have a background in general/physical health and maternal health. I have worked across the NHS, the private sector and the third sector. I provide highly specialist psychological therapy and health behaviour change interventions.

Why would I need a Health Psychologist? What can they offer?

As well as having the professional knowledge and skills to help you with difficult feelings or challenging issues you are struggling with;  anxiety or depressionstress and burnout, or PTSD or OCD, for instance, Chartered Health Psychologists have a specialist training which is unique in two distinct ways:

Sustainable Lifestyle Change

Firstly, Health Psychologists are uniquely trained in behavioural science. So, I work by integrating theories and techniques from behavioural science with those based in psychological therapy or counselling. I can develop health behaviour change interventions to break the cycle of ineffective and unsustainable previous attempts to make changes, by providing you with the knowledge and skills you need to make sustainable lifestyle changes, for life; healthy eating, weight loss, exercise, smoking cessation.

Physical Health-related Conditions

The second particular focus of Health Psychology is the psychological impact of physical/medical/health conditions. I have the specialist expertise and experience to help you reduce feelings of anxiety and depression or symptoms of PTSD associated with a long term health condition, such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease, for example. I can also help you to adjust to a recently diagnosed chronic illness, or to improve your quality of life, and empower you to cope more effectively with medically unexplained symptoms or a pain condition, or I can support you to reduce symptoms of health anxiety

Pregnancy, Birth, the Postnatal Period, and Menopause

I have a particular interest in, and I specialise in women's health during the times of difficult life transition, such as the perinatal period and the menopause. By integrating evidence-based aspects of third-wave CBT, and behavioural science, I can support you to reclaim control of your life and enjoy life again.

Difficult Feelings or Challenging Issues

As an Applied Psychologist and Practitioner Psychologist I am able to help with mental health problems including anxiety disorders, stress, panic disorder, low mood or depression, PTSD, complex PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and other issues that are affecting the way you feel. I use evidence-based therapies to enable you to better understand your unique situation, learn evidence-based techniques, and make changes that will help you to cope effectively and reduce unpleasant symptoms.
