About me

I am an experienced accredited Counsellor based in Llancloudy, which is just a 15 minute drive from Monmouth and Ross-on -Wye. I work from my garden office which is a very private and quiet space. I can offer you a confidential and supportive place to explore the issues that are causing you concern. If you are currently suffering from anxiety, depression or are aware that your coping strategy is now working against you, counselling could help. No issue that is causing you distress is ever silly or stupid, I will value and respect you at all times.

Talking to me can increase your self-awareness. This can lead to a better understanding of your past/present issues, together with a confidence to make informed choices about your future.

What to expect...

Counselling is about what you want from the session, it is your agenda, not mine. Usually, in the first session, I will explore your history with you, as I believe to understand our present patterns/beliefs/rules we need to understand our past. This will only be done with your consent and at a pace you’re comfortable with.
Counselling can often be an emotional experience, particularly when exposing past pains, it can also be an inspirational experience.
Many of my clients tell me they feel a sense of relief after the first session.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema-focused Cognitive Therapy and Person Centred are the theories that inform my practice.

There is NO obligation or expectation. After the first session, it's up to you.

I have over 25 years experience working with many different client issues, both in private practice and as a volunteer in charitable organisations.

I have worked with clients for a few weeks, several months, a year or more. As unique individuals, there is no set time for therapy, but in my experience, many people notice some change after a few sessions.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
