About me

I am a kind and approachable psychotherapist and counsellor and I offer a warm, confidential environment where I work with consideration and clarity. I believe that therapy can offer a unique environment where we can nurture our innate capacity to grow, make changes for ourselves and feel more in charge of our lives.

I work sensitively and intelligently in alliance with you, to support you to explore and understand your feelings and attitudes, allow you time and space to reflect, and ultimately help you find your own responses and solutions to support your well being.

Taking the first step to get support can feel frightening and overwhelming. There is no right place to start; we begin wherever you find yourself. Our sessions go beyond every day conversation; I will listen carefully and with empathy to your story. We may decide to explore aspects of earlier times in your life to identify patterns that helped you manage or keep our attention in the present. However we proceed it will be in collaboration.

Living a full and satisfying life can encompass many challenges. These can sometimes lead to stress and anxiety, depression and leave us unable to connect with ourselves or others.

I’m a Northerner who settled “down South’ many years ago and I understand the struggles associated with life changes. I am a partner, a mother of teenagers, a working woman balancing commitments, a friend and a colleague.

I offer compassionate professional support to help you navigate whatever is troubling you. I came to this work through my own experience of therapy and I bring integrity, creativity and flexibility to the process.

I am a fully accredited Humanistic therapist. The accreditation process, which I have undergone, is a robust in-depth examination by my governing body BACP, of my understanding and competency in offering and engaging with the therapeutic process. It is awarded after a prolonged period of assessment, scrutiny and demonstration of an increased level of experience.

As part of belonging to a wider community I have worked for a charity for the past 7 years supporting vulnerable and oppressed groups, to offer an opportunity to those would not normally be able to access psychotherapy.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

The list above is not exclusive, I work with transitions and life changes such as moving location or jobs, moving to university or college, becoming a parent, challenges around parenting, "empty nest syndrome', menopause and looking after elderly parents. Therapy can also offer support understanding and accepting the challenges of difficult and competitive career pathways and work relationships.

These life events can bring about many feelings and thoughts, decisions that need to be made which can at times feel overwhelming and oppressive.
