About me

I'm an experienced Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with 10 years of clinical practice in both charity and private sectors. My approach is person centred and psychoanalytically informed. The therapeutic process aims to increase your awareness of your internal world. This involves reflecting on the relationship between your earlier experiences and the difficulties that have brought you to seek help now. To achieve this it is important that we are able to consider past, sometimes painful, experiences. While this doesn't mean we have to talk about the past in every session, we do need to be able to think about it.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work with people who’ve experienced difficulties managing relationships, emotional disturbance, mood fluctuation, navigating life changes, low self-esteem and a general sense of unease or discomfort with life. I have particular experience in working with trauma and with those who've experienced childhood abuse or have complex familial relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

How it works

If you'd like to enquire about working together just send me a message and include your availability over the next couple of weeks. I will respond to you within five working days to organise an initial consultation.

In the consultation I'll ask you some gentle questions about you and your experiences. It is also an opportunity for you to see whether therapy with me feels like the right option for you. If I conclude that I’m not the right therapist for you, where possible, I will make recommendations to support you in finding someone else.  If therapy with me, does feel like the right option, we can go ahead and organise a regular time slot.

My fees

50 minute initial consultation: £60

50 minute weekly therapy appointment: £60

Payment is made only by bank transfer on the day of booking and in advance of your next appointment.

Coming to therapy

My office is easily accessible by Metro and is just a two minute walk from Jesmond Metro station. Alternatively you can take a bus into Newcastle city centre. There is free parking available around Jesmond.

If having something to drink will make you feel more comfortable while you're in session, please feel free to pick one up from the cafe's and shops in the city centre just a 10 minute walk away.
