About me

Hello my name is Laura.  I am warm, attentive, understanding and empathic.  Clients have told me they find me welcoming, friendly, easy to talk to and I have a knack for putting people at ease.  I will provide a safe, supportive and non judgmental space for you to work through whatever challenges bring you to counselling.

Maybe you haven’t been feeling quite yourself lately or a significant life event has left you reeling, or you just can’t quite put your finger on it, but you know something is off.  It can feel really overwhelming, scary, heavy and lonely when this happens. The thought of reaching out for help can feel very daunting and I really appreciate how hard it can be to send that first email or make that call. I will do my best to put you at ease and provide a safe empathic space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment and be fully accepted just as you are. To be really heard and understood and it's ok to bring your emotions, tears, laughter and swearing are welcomed.

Gaining an understanding of your life through your lens and working alongside you as you navigate your way through difficulties. It is not my intention to tell you what to do, but to help you find your own answers. I like to work at a pace that is comfortable to you and appreciate it takes time to create a trusted relationship.  We will only explore where you feel able to go. I will provide a space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions and help you gain a sense of your inner world. This might involve exploring patterns of behaviour, how you relate to others, how past life events maybe impacting you in the here and now, or how you feel about yourself and others around you. Essentially it is your space and we can explore whatever you’re struggling with no matter how big or small.

If you have any further questions or you would like to book an initial consultation, please get in touch by email or phone.  I aim to respond to email enquiries within 24 hours so if you have not heard back from me within this time please check your spam or junk folder.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My approach is Integrative and this allows me to pull on different theories and interventions that I feel would be most suitable to you personally. I treat all my clients as unique individuals and work in a way which I feel will be most beneficial to you depending on what brings you to counselling. I like to work collaboratively to ensure you are getting what you need from our time together and therefore welcome feedback and if anything isn’t working, I am open to looking at how we might do things differently.

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am trained in Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis theory. As a BACP registered member I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have professional indemnity insurance and I attend regular supervision.

I have 2 years experience working for a Suicide Prevention Charity.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

My fee is based on a 60 minute counselling session. I do have a limited number of lower cost spaces available please contact for current availability.

It’s really important you feel comfortable working with me, so I offer an initial free 30-minute consultation online via zoom. This is so we can explore what brings you to counselling and I can offer you a sense of how I work. This gives you an opportunity to get a feel for me and see if you feel safe and comfortable in talking to me and ask any questions you might have. I appreciate counselling is a big investment so I invite you to take time after this meeting to see if you feel I am a good fit for you and if you would like to work together.
